i use Neutrik connectors for at least half of my cabling..
i just score the sleeve with a little razor, then solder.
otherwise, especially with balanced connectors it's
hell. i love Neutrik. also, i always use some silver-bearing
solder on any audio connections i might be making.
my audio cables are *always* balanced, and have always
worked at least as well as any cables i have purchased.

If you have a vise to hold the connector steady it helps. Tin your bare
cable ends. Heat the U shaped ground sleeve a bit and put a little pool
of solder there. Tin the tip connector as well. Solder the ground of
your cable to the sleeve. Once it is cool and stable solder the tip. I
hope this helps. Charles.

Are you soldering the shield to the inside or outside of the U shaped
ground sleeve? When I solder to the outside I have trouble getting it
thin enough to slip the outside sleeve over it.

Thomas,

You definitely want to solder to the ground to the
inside of the connector. If you solder to the outside you will certainly
have problems putting the connector together. Charles.
