Sequencer "like" patch for MOTM 120

Sequencer "like" patch for MOTM 120

1999-02-10 by JWBarlow@xxx.xxx

Thanks, Larry, for your digital sequencer insights. I'm wondering if anyone
has ever used a (hardware) digital sequencer that has editing capabilities,
and how they were implemented?

Larry, I also thought of a simple patch which might give you some idea of why
an analog sequencer is useful.
1) Take an LFO (say 1-2 Hz) and patch it to an input of the MOTM 120.
2) Take a second LFO (say 5-10 Hz) and patch it to the other input.
3) Set the controls as follows:
a) A in CCW (off)
b) B in CCW (off)
c) SUB 1 = 1
d) SUB 2 = 1
e) SUB 3 = 4
f) SUB 4 = 5
4) Mode in SUB position.
5) Plug output of MOTM 120 into a VCO (say 1K Hz).
6) Listen to output of VCO.

Interesting patterns!
7) Now switch the mode switch on the MOTM 120 to the CROSS position.
8) Now play with those big beautiful knobs!

Hours of fun! Technically a sequencer, but not really. A real sequencer is
much more powerful obviously.

Any other MOTM patches you guys want to share?

Thanks John. I will ponder on this patch for a while.

My experience has been mostly with hardware sequencers. I software
sequencers are fine but sometimes inspiration and my computer don't mix.

One of the easiest I ever used was the old Alesis MMT-8. Its only fault,
no storage, you needed a separate disk drive. hence the "data disk". The
the data disk SQ which was cool for storage for the MMT-8 or as a stand
alone playback device for stage (no editing).

Today I use the hardware sequencer mostly in my T1. Editing is about as
good as software jobbies on most decent sequencers. I hope that's waht you
meant by "hardware."

Thanks again for the "patch". This modular is a whole new ball game for
me.

Later,
Larry

Thanks for the MOTM mods people. And thanks to Paul for the filter update
(MOTM tastes great and is less filling to the wallet).

About the following patch.

After listening to it while making dinner last night, he realized he should
have said "minutes of amusement." Now he wishes to invite Larry (or others) to
try a different pseudo sequencer patch.

1) Fast pulse LFO to S/H clock input.
2) Sine, Tri, or Saw LFO to S/H voltage input.
3) S/H out to VCO 1/v oct input.
4) VCO out to VCA in.
5) Divider output to ADSR (I just put the divider into both the trigger and
gate inputs, and it worked OK).
a) SUB 1 = 4
b) SUB 2 = SUB 3 = SUB 4 = 10
c) MODE = CROSS
6) ADSR to VCA CV input.
7) Listen to VCA output.
8) If your LFOs have sync, this will be more interesting I think (my syncing
VCOs are involved in another patch at the moment).

This might be a little more interesting. Sorry about those wasted hours
waiting for fun.
