What next?

What next?

1999-04-27 by Dave Bradley

Boy, it sure is quiet on this list as we all wait with baited breath for our
VCOs. ANYBODY OUT THERE?

Actually, being a greedy sort, I wanted to ask Paul what he thinks the
status of the mixer and Korg VCF schedules will be after he takes his break.

I would say the MS-20 filter is about 4 weeks away, the PS-3100 about 6
weeks away.
The mixer about 4 weeks away, along with a dual pre-amp and a triple
"reversing attenuator"
module that also has 8 power connectors to assist daisy-chaining.

Oh goodie. Will the reversing attenuator have both reversed and
non-reversed outputs?

No, it's a 1U wide module with 3 pots and 6 jacks. Cheap!

So, since this is an "attenuator" will "10" on the knob be unison voltage
in-to-out just inverted?

May I suggest:

Zero gain = 12:00
unity gain inverted = full left
unity gain noninverted = full right

OH. I like the sound of that. (+ and - 5 volt scales like the MOTM-700)
Do you mean "zero output" at 12 o'clock?

Yep. Gain x input voltage = output voltage, so zero gain equates to zero
output. Typically, you want to swing from full reversed polarity down to
zero and back to full normal polarity - hence the term "reversible
attenuator".

I was thinking -2 to left, +2 to right, zero in the middle. This copies
Moog's modular design.

Sure, same concept, just different numbers. It was the concept I was
making sure I was properly attached to. Sounds great !!

Sounds even better! Not just different numbers on the panel, but the ability
to provide gain to the signal as well as attenuation.

The panel will have actual gain setting, not just a "scale".
