Saturday night fever

Saturday night fever

1999-04-18 by Paul Schreiber

Well, after hunting down an obsure issue with the VCO (too little reference
current for the expo. pair)
I got the new pcbs all running 100%. Using a Kenton Pro2000 MIDI-CV, here is
how I got the tracking
set in about 2 minutes (after a 5 min warm-up)

Fout [ideal] Fout [actual] % error

249.94 <<<baseline value I started with
499.88 500.01 0.02%
999.76 999.87 0.01%
1999.52 1999.81 0.01%
3999.1 4000.11 0.02%

By God, THAT's tracking like a mother!!!

I got the same error percentages from 55, 110, 220, 440 hertz octaves. So,
my
claim of 10 octaves of less than 0.1% error holds up! Actually, the average
error
I measured over 9 octaves was 0.0165%.

The best to this prior I have seen was am EMu VCO that over this range was
about 0.275% average error.
So the MOTM-300 is *TWENTY* times better. A Moog 921B is about 0.35% error.
Pathetic.

It is looking like next Wednesday for VCO shipments to begin. Last week, my
#1 income source (Texas Instruments)
demanded 100% bandwidth ALL WEEK. So, not much got done.

I now have to write the manual (and let RoyT proofread it) and continue to
pack up a zillion parts.

Way to go Paul !!!

Larry (drooling and waiting for VCOs). Got so desparate I bought a Hammond
Tonewheel organ today. Talk about tracking. <grin> I only did it because
of that "power" thing. It's the only "oscillator" (using that term
loosely) that we (power company) have control over the stability and
tuning. HAHA. BTW, if anybody thinks that 60Hz (USA) is a static,
constant thing, e-mail me privately.
