patchcords..

patchcords..

2000-02-05 by RevTor@aol.com

so what is everyone doing for patch cords?
which plugs are recommended, and which wire is recommended? I saw some metal
plugs in Mouser for under 2 bux a pop... Now wire - Coax?, or is it not that
important? Is there a source for readymade cords with reasonable prices? I
dont mind making them but you know, its not the funnest.. readymade,
colored, in a few lengths would be ideal.. I know Blacet sells kits for
making 1/8 patchcords, any kits out there for our 1/4?
and an idea I had. Imagine a patch cord with an inline on/off switch
nicely molded into the length of the wire maybe 6 inches from one of the
jacks. Anyone know of any switches made to go in the middle of a length of
wire? I know they make inline pots for volume control on walkmans etc, but
switches? Mouser and digikey had nothing too great. With these, you could
turn on/off patches easier and faster, maybe making live peformances a bit
smoother............
food for thought,
thanks,
~Steve

Depends what you consider a reasonable price. To use with MOTM I would only
consider Switchcraft or Neutrik ends. If we could get some decent quantities
together collectively we could probably get them made by Horizon, Rapco, etc.
at a decent price.

I sent the response to the original question privately. I guess I should
have sent it to the list.

Switchcraft ends, USA-1 cable, variety of colors of cable and heatshrink.

I bought 30 cables 3 feet and under for $150 plus shipping. Well made -
ends are soldered and then the shrink goes over that. Switchcraft ends are
pretty good. Not quite a Neutrik, but quite acceptable.

If you do want to make you own, the Neutrik ends are the best in my
opinion. I just bought 200 of them. They are something special.

Yup. I got a whole pile of cables from Wacky and love them.
Quite solid. He will do color patterns if you want to give all
your cables unique color IDs in resistorspeak or something like that.
Good heavy stuff.
