Analog Sequencer

2012-12-18 by ithaib

Hi all, I'm looking into the Doepfer Maq 16/3 or the Analog Solutions Oberkorn. Any MOTM users here that use these with their system and have an opinion on them? I've read their manuals and sort of know their differences.. just wanted to know if there's something to look out for before I decide.

They're both $1K new which is what I would spend.

Would appreciate any insights..

Thanks!

Ithai, the major difference in the modular context is that the MAQ has no analog clock input, meaning you must use either it or MIDI as your clock source. I think it may also only offer quantized note values, which is great for some applications but less ideal for others. The trade off for this and a somewhat obscure interface is a host of cool features, not the least of which is its patch memory. The Oberkorn is a bit more of a "classic" analog sequencer design, simpler and more stripped down, but possibly better for some applications. Two very different products, really.

Re: [motm] Analog Sequencer

I have a Maq.  It is ok, but isn't ideal for my applications.  It is very precise and almost has too many posibilities locked in menus, but not obvious to me.  I always have to get out the user manual to do things.

My only other Sequencer experience is with the Future Retro Mobius.  While I hated the interface, it was easy to get good patterns and was fun.  It was very hard for me to get exactly what I wanted from it, but easy to make what I got sound good.  I only sold it because I could get money quick for it when I needed it.

Thanks guys! I found someone nearby that has a MAQ, I'll see if I like it.
I haven't gotten into Eurorack yet but those options look nice too.. different but nice.
Best,
Ithai

Neither, get the new Elektron Analog Four. You'll get 4 amazing monosynths and an awesome CV/Gate sequencer.

Jim - have you used the analog 4's cv/gate sequencer with your MOTM or a different analog synth?
