Another move (groan)

Another move (groan)

2012-08-24 by Paul Schreiber

I finalized the paperwork today, so time to say: here I go, moving yet again.

A)     This time, moving from Texas to Arizona

B)      It’s for a ‘real job’ with a ‘real company’. Of course, the last time I tried this (for RIM), I was laid off after making 1 house payment.

C)      I had to agree to certain ‘terms and conditions’ for this job. Yes, I can still do the synth work but cannot publically promote it. Meaning, I cannot post here or on Muffs, cannot attend NAMM without written permission, etc. So, I will have to go ‘radio silent’ but certainly can respond to individual emails. My phone # will remain 817 876 4998 (probably wrong on the site). Yes, I can keep the site but some content will be edited and I am restricted what can be put on it. It’s not as bad as it sounds, I just have to comply with the agreed guidelines which I will do.

D)     I am physically moving in mid-September, it will take until Oct 1 to calm down, establish new Internet, blah blah blah. I expect to be in training the first 2 weeks anyway so I have to focus on that versus synth stuff. But I am taking all the “synth stuff” out there via U-Haul trailer (I bet that will be exciting in its own right). Then, in Feb. I will be moving my crap into a 4bdr house with all the Texas crap. Yes, there WILL be Goodie Boxes.

E)      OK, now how does this impact 5U module in the backlog? Well, I will build and ship as many as I can because I do not want to take much 5U parts/panels/etc because they take up a LOT of room and I’m in a little 1bdr apartment. The upside is I will have lots of spare time being by myself (hopefully neighbors are not crazed) and synth building reverts BACK to HOBBY. This is mostly a mental stress issue with me and will result in increased output (sounds backwards but it is what it is). The net result is yes I will be “down” for about 18 days but once “back up” will have the backlog reduced rapidly. You will note that the shipping address will be a PO box, I will go to the UPS store and sign up so I can send/receive packages as this apartment is temporary.

Let’s hope this move (much more dramatic and involved, 1100mi versus 12mi) turns out OK.

Good luck Paul!  Sounds "exciting".  Hope less "exciting" than last time!

So if you won't be communicating on this list any longer, does that spell the END of the MOTM list?

Congratulations and best of luck, Paul! Your going radio-silent is kind of sad and scary but I know you have to do what you can to support yourself & family.

I want to thank you for everything you've done in the synth domain and I hope you make many more great contributions. I will support you & Scott by ordering future MOTM-format modules. Go for it!

Gee whiz. Post after post of the usual, congrats, good luck, etc. and not a single person asking for a logical explanation as to why Paul can still run a synth business and sell modules, yet can't talk about it in public. Short of working for a direct competitor, this makes little sense.

Perhaps that is the answer! ;) I'm guessing Paul will tip his hand at some point.

Many corporations have employment agreements along the line of what Paul mentions. Especially the more corporate ones such as military contractors and very large electronics corporations.

I sort of doubt Paul is working in the music industry. The Phoenix/Scottsdale area has a huge number of major electronics companies (non music related) that are likely employers.

Either way, best of luck to Paul in his new job.

contractually obliged secrecy, most likely.

maybe once Paul starts his job he can tell us more. until then, probably not.
