shipping from us to europe

hey list, i know this is totally off topic but i'm in need of information about shipping MOTM modules overseas from the us.
i work for a company that has a shipping department and when i had them draw up the papers to ship a box of 3 modules, the shipping and duty came to $250. the duty was most of it because i had to put a value on the pieces. the deal ended up not happening. now i have another buyer.
what do you guys do? what carrier do you use? how do you handle the duty and value of the parts?
