Happy BD to me/Status

Happy BD to me/Status

2011-02-22 by Paul Schreiber

a) MOTM turned 13 last week, was too busy to really think much about it. I
did run the # modules/# customers, and for 11 years in a row that number
is.....12.

b) According to my accountant, I 'lost' $505 for 2010 which means I paid
myself $505 too much. Much "better" (cough) than 2009 when I lost $7600.
Well, that new Ferrari will have to wait 1 more year....sigh. And for the
chronic nosey: both years that salary was < $40K. Which is not bad for a
hobby but about $100K away from a 'real' job. The only year that I made
'real' money was 2000 but hey, we ALL made good money in 2000.

c) I've been working the last 3 weeks on the 5U backlog, made a dent
somewhat. I'm going to ship some Euro off later in the week, and then while
the pc boards are being stuffed go back to 5U. I am making up "missing" kits
(which means I can't properly add up what was needed in the backlog), mostly
'190s and '700s. After those, then I will have to settle up with the '480
kits/assembled, as probably 65% of the remaining backlog is tied to the
'480.

I am gathering up parts for the 4 '650s orders left to ship, I ordered the
wrong crystal form-factor (am I the only one that thinks Digikey/Mouser
needs to offer about 1/3 of the present catalog? Too many choices!).

Thanks for an interesting 13 years, hoping for many more.

Congrats on the long run so far, Paul, and for changing the world of modular
synthesis forever by establishing the 5U DIY phenomenon! ;-)

Congratulations and thanks! I hope you don't lose your enthusiasm for this anytime soon. There are still a ton of MOTM modules I don't have that I really want. But my wallet can only satify the wishlist at a few modules per year. :)

Happy Birthday MOTM - it's been a fun ride!

Coincidentally - I finally built my 2 485's over the weekend. Strangest module
yet. I thought the 1st one was broke, then I built the 2nd and realized "I
guess it's just different". Paul/Crow you should have saved some sauce for the
RES in LP mode, you used it all in the HP mode!!

Happy Birthday!

I happily recall first finding the Synthtech site in 98'. I think there was only a power supply and the promise of amazing things to come.

I have enjoyed building and using MOTM modules all these years and I have learned a wealth of electronics in the process.

Thanks Paul!

Charles.
