Live E340 & E350 demos

2010-04-13 by Paul Schreiber

Here are 4 snippets of the E340 & E350 recorded by Robert Rich in rehearsal.
This upcoming tour info is here:

http://robertrich.com/2010-tour-dates/

There are 4 synth tracks that are sequenced via Ableton Live. There is a
Korg Wavestation "pad", the other 3 are all MOTM voices as follows:

#1: E340 Cloud >> MOTM-440 VCF (P5 rev 2 type)
#2: E350 MT >> MOTM-480 VCF (CS-80 type)
#3: custom CS-80 VCO >> MOTM-490 Moog ladder VCF

I'll be at the Tucson show, hope to see some folks there.

These sound great. I had some specific questions though:

(1) What's producing the soaring lead sound that could be mistaken for a female voice in "improv.mp3"?

(2) What's behind the flute-type sound in "intro.mp3"?

Regards,
Roger

Not too much longer to wait either... 5u versions are coming in 2013. JK & LOL as I grumble from the back of the bitter bus. Waiting for greatness sucks though. I should NOT have sold my Eurorack stuff 3 years ago. It's hard to find signs 5u is alive these days other than .com & Modcan. I can't deal with the dinky lil' Euro format. Too tight... Kind of like SMD compared to Thru Hole. Ha!

I've found exactly the opposite to be true. My 5U modular has over
doubled in size over the last three years. Have you seen
bridechamber? Independent vendors on muffwiggler?

I've seen some of the new Euro stuff in action recently, and if you
ask me, with some notable exceptions, it's all either a) yet another
mini-wave, b) crappy versions of traditional synthesizer modules with
bug-music style normalizations, or c) crappy digital effects.

Oakley are still going strong in 5U.

I certainly *hope* Mr. White is aware of the Bridechamber as the Klee and MFOS sequencers are his design. Not to mention the panel for his LPGs.

On the one hand, I completely agree with you. When I've built everything in my backlog I will have filled another *four* cabinets. (But I won't keep it all.) JH's brilliant designs, the stuff on E-M, etc. is too much to keep up with. The great stuff being put out by Moon helps (if we don't discriminate between 5U panel widths) and there's Hordijk, STG, etc. etc. etc. Tony @ Oakley has mentioned doing two more filters this year.

On the other hand, there is a perception out there that the MOTM format is dead. Another manufacturer tried to convince me that .com was the only way to go now since nothing new is being released. I couldn't bear to mention the stack of panels sitting in the kitchen so I just said "uh huh". Someone who needs something off the shelf and thinks "MOTM format = MOTM" would have to think that our corner of the world lacks vibrancy.

That's not Mr. White, though!

Fair enough. I did forget about Oakley and Scott does hold his own with Bridechamber. I just miss new 5u MOTZm stuff coming out. 1 module a year is hard for me since I have been around with MOTM since 2000. Maybe I am bitter having "grown up with" the future module schedule and have seen many modules not happen. SEM filter, triple pre amp, panner, filter bank, etc and now Euro guys get the jump on two of the coolest new modules out anywhere. Paul has an excellent vision for his modules and I want more official 5u. It seems the extra kits and 2.0 orders keep his backlog constant taking time away from 5u. It is all bottom line and delays end up pushing us addicts to other manufacturers or diy like Oakley, bridechamber, etc.

However, I still wait for cloud gen and morphing terrarium to come out. I will buy both. I'd also love a great digital delay like Modcan, but $600+ is a lot to come up with these days.

"It is all bottom line and delays end up pushing us addicts to other

Right - I've been waiting just under 2 years for one MOTM 300 VCO, three
MOTM 320 VC-LFOs, and one MOTM 490 VCF (all kits and all legacy stuff). And
this is not unique in my personal experience.

Meanwhile, I order finished Oakley VC-ADSR's from Paul (krisp1) Darlow and
get them from over the pond in less than 4 weeks. I gave up waiting for a
MOTM VC-ADSR.

Scott (the third Stooge) is phenomenal and I've given him way too much
business over the last several years. He's the crack pusher funneling all
the DIY drugs for my MOTM habit as fast as I can afford.

I'm also a charter subscriber to the Jeurgen Haible's parade of Analogue DIY
Modules.

Funny you should mention the SEM filter, triple pre-amp, panner, filter
bank, etc, etc. Those were top of my wish list too. Vaporware. I recently
got 2 re-issue SEMs in patch panel configuration from Mr. Oberheim c/o
AudioMIDI, so the SEM is now checked-off too.

My "MOTM" system is now < 50% SynthTech. The "MOTM" standard is not for the
impatient or cash-strapped enthusiast.
