MOTM 475 ?

MOTM 475 ?

2009-06-03 by edibennardo

I thought more people on this list were interested in GX1 sound re-creation but there was no comment on my question about "tremolo" (or what that thing is) in a GX1, a second question I pose is if the long ago announced 475 is on a to do list somehow.
one oscillator (with 4 waveforms), one noise source, two EGs, one VCA 3 X 485 and 1 X 475, one MULT and one mixer should perfectly give the monophonic audio path of that monster. I can't wait...

While I'm not all that interested in re-creating any particular synth, I'm curious to know how this BP filter differs from the 485 in BP mode... or simply what the topology is.

cheers,

Hi Enrico,

Sorry, I've been really busy lately and haven't had time to pull out the CD
an listen to it and see if I can recreate it. I'm pretty sure I can come
pretty close if it's the sound I have in my head.

I LOVE the MOTM-485 and own two of them! I have a few YouTube video
demos/clips where I feature the MOTM-485. And the original designer of the
GX1 clone circuit, OldCrowsSynthShop, comments on one or two of them so
maybe you could send him your questions too. Here are the ones that I used a
MOTM-485 or two one predominantly:

Most clips I've heard using the MOTM-485 reflect the "dirty" aspect of the filter, especially the examples on the MOTM website, which in my opinion would send most prospective buyers into screaming fits, running with hands clasped painfully over their bleeding ears.

So I bought 2, and found that the character changes dramatically when the units are presented with lower amplitude inputs. Much less distortion, much smoother!

In any case, I created my favorite polysynth sound of all time by feeding many VCO's into 2 MOTM-485's in series with both set to LP. Sampled into Kontakt, and voila! killer polysynth. It's the main sound in the demo clip titled "Future" on this page:
