Hey, I found 22gage stranded wire at radioshack. Is this acceptable if I run out of Paul's wire? Or should I seriously look for 24 gage? -- www.elanhickler.com

MOTM kits use 22ga wire. Be careful with the RS wire: make sure it is *tinned*, stranded wire (is silver in color). Do NOT use untinned wire, that is *very difficult* for a beginner to solder. Paul S. ----- Original Message -----

I found some wire for less than $6.00. Why is all the wire over $25 at mouser.com? Does this $6.00 wire suck or something? Or is it good for MOTM projects? Link: http://www.allspectrum.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=2756&osCsid=12105adeaef305e814681f65ef00e3d3

I'm not sure about that particular brand, it could be fine . . or not. I read some negative reviews of Radio Shack wire that the insulation melted at lower temperatures and shrunk more than was acceptable. I bought some anyway. Yeup, those people were right, it isn't very good wire! Some good stuff I found at a reasonable price at a good dealer is NTE stranded hookup wire from TriState Electronics: https://www.tselectronic.com/nte/wh_wire.html FYI: below is my order from January: Qty. The wire I found, the Consolidated Wire has a homepage: http://conwire.thomasnet.com/category/hook-up-wire Apparently they have all kinds of wire in all colors, but do they sell to individuals like me? I'll call them monday and find out. Here's another place I bought wire. I walked into Unicorn Electronics in Johnson City, NY, when I was there visiting a few years ago and got ten 100-foot rolls of 22 gauge hookup wire. (Tip: Buy more black wire than colors.) I like the insulation on this wire. http://www.unicornelex.com/ http://www.unicornelex.com/detail.php?itemno=22-8324& Here's a photo of a module showing this Unicorn wire in use: http://pugix.com/synth/catgirl-synth-pulse-divider/ Richard Brewster Argitoth wrote:

any reason not to use solid core cable? as it's easier to work with, no tinning? I've also seen it use is many commercial modules. -p

I've also seen it use is many commercial modules. - stranded wire is MUCH easier to solder - stranded wire will take 10X the movement that solid wire will. Solid wire is for fixed installations (like in the walls of your house). - it's not a good idea to twist solid wire. Twisted wires have a lot less interference pick-up that individual solid wires Paul S.
