Playing with the idea of selling patch cables...

2009-02-24 by Argitoth

Hello MOTM users...

I've made 10 patch cables already with canare bulk and switchcraft connectors. My first 10 were kinda messy... They all work! But now I have the cable stripping/soldering technique down and I'll be making myself 10 more. So, I've been playing with the idea of selling patch cables and wondering if there's any interest in custom ordering (and having to wait a week or two to fill the order). Or, I was planning on just making some cables and posting a thread "X # patch cables for sale!" and seeing what would happen.

What would you like to see? Canare cables come in different colors. I can also do colored heat shrink. Mogami cables don't have braided wire shielding so they are easier to work with. For connectors, there's the expensive Canare connectors with springs or the more standard Switchcraft connectors. For a canare cable with switchcraft connectors I could charge $13 for a 4 foot cable and $1.20 for each aditional foot... 8ft for $17.80. Yeah I'm a noob, but if I start selling cables, I'd be professional about it. I'd sell it under a company name and have some kind of guarantee, keep track of who buys what and when.

Thoughts? Questions? Criticisms?

Oh man, I'm done playing with the idea of selling cables. It's too
tedious! Dunno how anyone could do it for hours. Well Eric, let me
know what you want still if it's not too much for me to handle.
