On a related not, how hard would it be to make the size of the PowerOne supply optional in a 900 or 950 (or offer an "empty" module and let you source your own PowerOnes)? I have 2 of the stock units sitting here from the ones I upgraded, but I probably would have just gotten bigger ones to start with if it had been an option. I will probably turn one of them into a bench supply, but here again, it would be nice to be able to order the various parts separately.

I second this. I was going to plead for this as an option next time I build more cabinets. I like the official MOTM-900 panel, but want to use my own Power One supplies. If we can buy just the panel, switch, and select the power distribution board, that would make my day.

If you want to make longer power cables DIY, Blacet offers two kits that feature 18 ga wire and connectors, one comes with a crimper. Only available in the 4 conductor wire and connector though. -- John Blacet

I've bought many from you over the years -- even with four distribution boards, almost half my modules don't seem to reach with the stock cords. Especially not with enough slack to allow one to pull the module forward to work on it at all.

I think the standard 20" are too short. The 30" is a good size. A couple of 3 footers would help out for those modules at the extremes of distance from the PS. George Paul Schreiber wrote:

The 20" power cables have always worked fine for me, except for one module I used a 30" one. I have relatively small cases though (10U wide and 12U tall). I was thinking that "MTA Couplers" would be handy for connecting two shorter cables together. I might try to make one later for fun. Just two headers with their pins soldered together and insulated somehow. Or maybe a little PCB . . . John L Rice

This is what I use. It's just a 6 pin MTA connector but the pins extend equally long on both sides. I just piggyback cables together when I need an extension to work outside the cabinet. I always check it twice - red to red and white to white. I don't know where I got it - been too long. I also have soldered back to back connectors with a break in one of the power rails so I can measure current. Have one for each of the three voltages.
