MOTM Numbering Rationale

MOTM Numbering Rationale

2000-01-24 by Tkacs, Ken

I have a question about the numbering of MOTM modules. Obviously there's
some method behind the madness, but I'm wondering what the "official"
designations-if any-behind the 'hundreds' digit means. Some categories are
more obvious than others.

Here's a weak stab at it from observation:

	100 - Miscellaneous? (Noise, S&H, VCA, RM, Divider?)
	200 - Reserved
	300 - Oscillators
	400 - Filters
	500 - Reserved
	600 - Reserved
	700 - (Switching?)
	800 - Controller / CV Sources
	900 - Support (Power, Patching)

Please don't tell me to "Go search the archives" because I did a while ago
and found nothing <g>.

It seems the 'tens' digit is "Function type" and the 'ones' is "Revision
Number."

Best regards to all.

I haven't heard anything official from Paul, but what you have observed
pretty much hits the mark. For instance, I believe we've heard that the new
NS/SH module is moving from 100 to 101, and the Micro VCO was mentioned as a
MOTM-310.

BTW, go search the archives... NOT<g>! This subject hasn't come up before.

  For the 400-filter series, the numbers make a bit of sense:

  410 --> PS3[10]0
  420 --> MS[20]
  440 --> SSM20[40]

I have always maintained a personal list of what is available (price list),
what is coming up and what the numbers mean. One addition:

	000 - Things you can't rackmount (rails, power cables, etc.)

BTW, I have a '940 too. I have considered drilling it up, but my patch bay
is taking care of all of my needs right now. I like to use pass throughs a
lot, so it is perfect for that (for 1/4"), except for MIDI pass through. I
take a bunch of 1' cables in the rear of the bay and I can easily have
whatever size mults I need. This is an extremely flexible system for me.
Although I will continue to buy at least one of everything Paul releases.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
