Here is just a *concept* mockup of a 'new look' Euro module. Just fooling
around right now with spacings/fonts/tick marks that sort of thing.

Looks nice! Is that the new logo I spy there too? ;-)

A little advice.

My company is coming out with a few Euro Modules too. With all those manufacturers in euro format sometimes there are gaps in between modules. We (and cwejman and maybe a couple others) put ovals for mounting holes instead of circles. If you want i can send you a .PSD of the size we use and the placement of them. Also the width of the panel is SUPER important...the smaller you make it the more people will look at it. I can send you the mockup of an analog delay we're releasing that is pretty packed...it took a while to design because we wanted to make it the smallest possible without being "too small" i have big fingers and i can still fit them in between knobs. If i can help Paul, (or anyone) let me know

I like it and will purchase them - the knobs have a nice look and I trust you will continue keeping all of the jacks on the bottom.

I fully understand the appeal of the full form-factor and have a decent mix of dot.com & MOTM but more and more I am finding the Euro format prefereable. I have finally gotten around the space restrictions in playing the modules with my stubby fingeres and the module selection and economy of space offset the compromises for me.

I still have 6 racks of Frac (including MOTM) but I am reluctant to expand further into that format.

that is a good suggestion. if i were having panels fabricated by CNC routing or sharks with freakin' lasers on their heads then i would be doing that as well.

Also the width of the panel is SUPER important...the smaller you make it the more people will look at it.

despite the obvious and strong desire to follow the pack on this, it's more important that his design can also be flown into frac than to be as small as possible. my own euro modules use the same PCB as the other formats, which cuts down on inventory requirements and dev time for a new module in a new format.

if he were using a core card and a parallel front panel card that would free the design up. however, those Cliff jacks require perpendicular cards.

in fact that's the only question i'd be asking: why still use the Cliff jacks?

The centres are supposed to be 0.1" + k x 0.2" from the edges. I
think that one of the British manufacturers (Analogue Solutions or
Analogue Systems) got that wrong and put them at multiples of 0.2"
from the edges, hence the gaps when racked along modules by other
manufacturers.

hm ... what does that mean electrically?

+/-12V or +/-15V Supply?

    Happy New Year! Michael. :-)

Just to clarify a few points about this:

a) this is just a *test* mockup. I have *no intention whatsoever* doing a
'Euro 190 VCA'. It's just a *test*.

b) The intent of the mockup is to figure out stuff like spacing, fonts, line
widths, logo positioning, etc. It has *nothing* to do with an actual module
definition.

c) the first REAL Euro module is in fact the E340 SuperSaw VCO. I don't have
a mock up of that module yet, it's still in final design/pcb layout. I
should have something to show in a few weeks.

d) Euro modules use +-12V with a 16-pin ribbon cable.
