Off to the frozen North I go!
2000-01-23 by Paul Schreiber
Unless planes aren't flying tomorrow in DC/Boston, I'm off for a full week to the frozen NE (where the wind chill hits -40C). Today in Dallas it's 69F. So, I'm making 1 last run to the post office tomorrow AM. If you are owed something you think I should ship, let me know asap! The follow folks are scheduled to have stuff go out: Celeste H. Gur M. Robert P. Mark S. Jared F. Orders for '440s/'101s etc are of course on hold. Still no sign of '800 pots: Ken E. and Jared F. have claims to the last kits. Still about 3 weeks away for more. I am taking laptop and pcb CAD tools so if I get stuck somewhere I can work on the '440. Also: due to several factors, I have decided not to offer a quad VCA. Rather, a ULTRA DUAL VCA with lin/log inputs (seperate!), panning, cross-fading, and mixing. This design is in simulation in the secret German labs :) Be prepared: it's expensive and is a 10/10 kit. But simulation shows that it's about a factor of 8 *better* that the '110 VCA, which ain't no slouch. And yes, Dave, it has LEDs! One feature is the gain linearity is 20mv max over a 10V range or 0.2%. Most VCAs are about 3-5% linearity. This makes for precise left/right panning and sound localization. Plus, I dare you to find a dual VCA module with better specs. No CA3080s here! All discrete, using matched low-noise cascoded stages. Yet, only 2 trims (for DC offset). Did I mention 2 different types of overdrive? Zowie! More details when I'm back. Paul S. packing goose-down socks
