Off to the frozen North I go!

Off to the frozen North I go!

2000-01-23 by Paul Schreiber

Unless planes aren't flying tomorrow in DC/Boston, I'm off for a full week
to the frozen NE (where the wind chill hits -40C). Today in Dallas it's 69F.

So, I'm making 1 last run to the post office tomorrow AM. If you are owed
something
you think I should ship, let me know asap! The follow folks are scheduled to
have stuff go out:

Celeste H.
Gur M.
Robert P.
Mark S.
Jared F.

Orders for '440s/'101s etc are of course on hold.

Still no sign of '800 pots: Ken E. and Jared F. have claims to the last
kits. Still about 3 weeks
away for more.

I am taking laptop and pcb CAD tools so if I get stuck somewhere I can work
on the '440.

Also: due to several factors, I have decided not to offer a quad VCA.
Rather, a ULTRA DUAL VCA
with lin/log inputs (seperate!), panning, cross-fading, and mixing. This
design is in simulation
in the secret German labs :) Be prepared: it's expensive and is a 10/10 kit.
But simulation shows
that it's about a factor of 8 *better* that the '110 VCA, which ain't no
slouch. And yes, Dave, it
has LEDs! One feature is the gain linearity is 20mv max over a 10V range or
0.2%. Most VCAs are
about 3-5% linearity. This makes for precise left/right panning and sound
localization. Plus, I dare
you to find a dual VCA module with better specs. No CA3080s here! All
discrete, using matched low-noise
cascoded stages. Yet, only 2 trims (for DC offset). Did I mention 2
different types of overdrive? Zowie!

More details when I'm back.

ARCGHRGHHGHGG!!!?!?! (very poorly spelt, extremely loud scream)

good job i decided to hold back on ordering the extra VCA then:

ooh - voltage controlled panning, and x fading..? looks like i'm going to
let my S&H be the DJ

and the VCO was only an eight, right..? (oh shit...)

i refer the ladies & gentlemen of the list to my first utterance - i think i
should go lie down now

cheers paul b
counting down the days (how many would that be then - roughly..?)

paul,
hopefully you made it out to whwere you were going!
we had heavy snow here ( d.c. area ) yesterday. at one of the local airports,
they said 8" but as measured by yardstick in my front yard, 19". drift / dune
on other side of yard ( where wind is worse) was 27".
stayed home from work yesterday and

paul,
sorry, my cat sat on my mouse and set mail unfinished.
to continue : and i`m staying home today, taking a "sick day", to give them a
chance to get the roads straightened out. just came in from digging out to
the roadway, about 8 feet from back end of car to there. brutal for a guy
with a bad back!
should you ever be in d.c. area when the roads are passable, let me know, i`d
love to meet you and say "hello".
when do you anticipate being able to ship my 420 ?
anyway, have a safe trip!
best,
dave
