Yeah, I specifically mentioned the steel panel for your benefit because
before I bought the steel one I had read your aluminum recommendation a
couple times but when I was at Guitar Center I completely forgot about it
and was distracted by the MOTMesque finish on the steel raxxess panel! ;-)
Luckily I have a decent Dremel setup so it only took me a fairly long time!
I was too chicken to try to cut the hole to the exact size on the first go
because the lip on the inlet isn't very wide and I didn't want unsightly
gaps around it so I had to so some tedious grinding after the main hole was
cut. Apparently I must be worried that if it ever catches on fire, creating
enough light inside the cabinet to shine out through the gaps, the firemen
who come to put it out won't be like sayin' "ppfftt! Look at that sloppy
construction! Sheesh!" :-)
What is the "Power-One startup issue"? I haven't heard about that.
And yes, I plan on putting another MOTM distro board in the next cabinet.
Originally I was thinking of using 6 pin din connectors like
Synthesizers.com does and even just using one of their cables to connect the
two but . . . I started thinking I wanted something more heavy duty and
locking. I saw someone that had used big Speakon connectors but that was a
little TOO heavy duty for me! I'm thinking now that I'm going to use metal 5
pin XLR connectors, female for both panel mounts and a male to male cable.
Any reasons this might not be a good idea??

Thanks for the pics, John. Glad to see my cabinet project was helpful
to you. I used an aluminum rack panel for the mounting power supply,
just because it is so much easier to mill. Still very sturdy at 1/8"
thick. I put a power supply in each cabinet, and I have a couple of
CGS63 Power Supply Delay boards awaiting assembly, should I run into the
Power-One startup issue. You won't have any ventilation problems! To
power your second cabinet, I suppose you'll put another MOTM-990
distribution board in it. How do you plan to run the DC wiring between
the 990s?
