Fuse part number form MOTM-900/950

2008-07-05 by Richard Brewster

Looking at Mouser for replacement 800ma/250V SLO-BLO 5mm x 20mm fuse, I
see three choices (current catalog page 591): Series 215, 218, and 239.
Which is the correct part. And what's the difference, besides cost
($1.23, $1.99, and $0.75 in single quantity, respectively)?

I haven't blown a fuse. Just looking for similar parts.

Thanks,

Richard Brewster

215 = ceramic fuse body (not glass) used in high shock/vibe will work but
overkill

218 = 'normal' fuse for Europe, what I buy

239 = 'normal' fuse for USA, what I buy

I'm trying to confirm which fuse to get for a 900 upgraded with a
HBB15-1.5A power supply.

The unit itself seems to suggest a 1 amp verion of the 239 would work
for 110VAC. The printed instructions, however, seem to say to use a
.5 (assuming I'm reading it right). Both of these seem low to this
admittedly non-electronics-geek, so I thought I'd ask here, since I
know some of you have done this upgrade.

Thanks!
JN

a) you need to use the value printed on the supply, for the proper *input
voltage*. The 110 & 220V fuses will differ by 1/2.

b) you need to use Slo-Blo types if possible. Fuses are 5mm X 20mm (standard
size).

c) since you are fusing the AC input side, that current will be lower than
the output side (which is a lower *voltage*).
