Newbie MOTM power supply question

Newbie MOTM power supply question

2008-03-28 by Syruss Flyte

Currently I have power cables strung between my DotCom cabinet and my
MOTM/Modcan cabinet, however I've decided that I would rather use a
separate MOTM power supply so that the two cabinets no longer need to
be kept right next to each other (actually one on top of the other)

So here's my newbie question of the day; is there any reason to get the
MOTM-900 instead of the MOTM-950? Especially since I'll need the 950
for the CG/CGX modules when they become available?

The only thing is that the '950 can only power around 10 'normal' MOTM
modules (with a MOTM-960 hanging off it).

The '900 has a lot more juice to power +/-15v modules than does the '950.
What motm/modcan modules are you currently powering?

Ah, yes I hadn't noticed the lower output on the 950

I've do have spare linear power supply lying around:
DC Power Output: +15V@1500ma, -15V@1500ma, +5V@6000ma.
Is there any reason I couldn't (or shouldn't) just wire that up to a
990 adapter board and us it?

As for current modules, at the moment the cabinet only has a pair of
Modcan 05B Dual LFO modules, an (unpowered) Modcan 49B Attenuate
module, and a MTOM 390Â… the whole point of the cabinet initially was
to provide a home for LFO's since DotCom doesn't make them, but as my
system grows it become less reasonable to share power supplies
between cabinets, and I've a growing desire for modules other than
those provided by DotComÂ… like all those MOTM filters :)

I can't see why not. That could power a couple dozen modules. Also,
buying a 950 is a waste of both money and panel space if you already
have a suitable supply, imho. Just make sure its properly fused and
securely mounted.

Would this trio of supplies on eBay do the trick:
How would I calculate the fuse rating? I'd like to swap out my 800ma power supplies.
thanks,

No, those look like single supplies.

It should say on it. If it doesn't, I'm sure you can download the
instructions from their website.
