MOTM DIY questions

2007-12-07 by Jeff Laity

I'm putting together a Mouser BOM for the MOTM 300 and have a few
questions:

- Spectrol 149s are still available from the store, right? Isn't it
the 148 that went away? (You mentioned that the "in stock" indicator
on the store doesn't relate to anything.) And Bourns 95A1 (Mouser
652-91A1A-B24-B20) are still used also?
- When I'm ordering parts like op amps, does "DIP" mean through-hole
and "SOIC" mean surface-mount? I'm worried that I'm going to end up
with the wrong one since SMT is more common these days. I double-check
each part but I feel sure to miss one and get little mouse turds
instead of through-hole diodes.
- Any special consideration in the capacitor department, other than
what's in the manual's parts list?

Thanks, -jl

p.s. This page is a godsend:

probably yes. when in doubt, take a look at the part number in the online
catalog and match it to the illustration...you should see a big difference
between DIP and SOIC.

the mouser list view pages usually have the form factor of the
component in a handily prominent location. not that this hasn't
resulted in me spacing and getting turds in the mail...
