funny problem with s&h module

funny problem with s&h module

2007-10-01 by loopcycle

when i screw all four corners down to my stooge rails, the s&h does not sample.
it just holds. if i tap on the front panel with my finger, it samples the
input in time with my fingertaps.

i thought this was cool for about 5 minutes, but now i want it to work right
again.

if i take a couple screws out, the s&h works normally.
so, i think some pressure on the frontpanel must be aggravating a poor solder
joint.

instead of touching all the solder points on the board, are there a few
particularly suspect i might go after first? maybe the pots first? any
suggestions welcome, thanks!

This is one of 2 things:

a) bad solder joint (most likely).
b) a tiny crack in the pc board trace

The S&H is the LF398 IC U6. It can be the Track/Hold switch soldering, or
the wiring on the CLK (J5).

I 'touched up' the soldering on U6, and the track/hold and clk solder
joints on the pcb. Everything works perfectly now. Thanks Paul!
