MOTM SYNTHS

2007-09-21 by Koos Fockens

How many MOTM synths, or synths containing partly MOTM are out there do you think?
With 7 or 8000 modules sold, it has to be at the very least, several hundred, if not about
1000 or so?
If that is the case, where are your pictures and stories guys? I'd love to post them on my blog,
and so far, haven't really heard from anyone, with a few exceptions, but I should be able to
run a different system at least 52 times, to fill a year?
send your pics and stories to motmsynth@... , thanks a lot everyone :-)

a) well, it depends on what you mean by "synths". If that is a
VCO/VCF/EG/VCA, and that chain is 100% MOTM, then I would say a decent guess
is about 475 systems.

b) I have shipped at least 1 module to (as of today) 634 *different* people.
Of this number, over 100 are '1 and done', meaning they bought 3 or fewer
modules and never ordered again.

c) there are several people that had large systems, sold them as individual
modules that I'm sure spawned into several true "systems".

d) Isn't it odd that I am the *only* synth manufacturer that even 'admits'
to their selling numbers?

I will submit my photos to you. I have physically ordered about 5 modules from Paul, but I do own a filled 22 space .com studio cab. Half of these modules were purchased second hand. 4 of which are filters. Still need a Motm 190 amp module to complete an MOTM monosynth. Which I need to order or find used, anyone?

Thanks very much Michael :-)

I'd say go and order a 190 with Paul, but if you are in a real hurry, why don't you give E-bay a go, sometimes MOTM modules creep up there, not often, but there could be other compatible mfg's out there, for example Oakley or so? I was lucky to scoop up a MOTM 120 sub mux there for a good price recently, and it was flawless (sorry Paul :-) , but it has a good home now :-) ).

Photo's of a system under construction are also welcome, like I said before, doesn't have to be a monster synth, small can be beautiful (to me a single module is , I remember my first single module, and had fun dreaming about the others that would one day complement it, and now I have a small but complete synth, comprising of: 1 VCO, 1 VCA, 1 Submux, 2 VCF's, 2 ADSR's, 1 Noise/SH, 1 midi/CV, 1 LFO, 1 power supply, and still have a second VCO, one wave warper, and a multiple on order, plus a power distribution board to help supply all the modules that I do not have yet, but plan for :-)

Interesting statistics, indeed. 475 complete systems perhaps, that should keep me going for several years then :-)
then adding all the individual systems, that contain 1 or 2 modules... yes, I could be busy for a decade or so that way :-)

I have an almost lovely motm system that I d love to have featured on your blog, but it s still got these 3 empty holes where the modules I ve ordered but not

Re: [motm] MOTM SYNTHS

2007-09-21 by David Moylan

Put me down for at least .2625% of known MOTM modules, I have 21 MOTM
modules and 5 of other manufacturers in the MOTM format. 10 modules are
currently in my 'main' synth. I've posted links of that unit to the
files section of the group. I'm working on my new one, a bass pedal
synth with

uVCO
uVCO
Sub Oct Multiplexer
QLFO
EG
440 LPF
EG
190 VCA/RM (which I need to order).

It's to be semi-normalled. I'm trying to figure out a way to be able to
break the modules off so that they can be used separately from the
pedals, so I don't need to run patch cables to the floor if I want to
mix with my main synth. I'm thinking of it like modules of modules with
the main synth perfectly good on it's own then able to combine with the
pieces from the foot synth and the other modules I have. If you were
into transformers as a kid, think of the Destructicons. Perfectly fun
on they're own but able to merge into something larger. Maybe my
synth(s) should be called Devastator?

Well, Koos, I did consider sending in some stuff when you called for
pics the first time in July.
Admittedly I'm a bit .. uhm .. embaressed since I still didn't manage to
get that many kits up and running I allready got. So the vast majority
in my still small and very prototypish modular is non-MOTM. (well "vast"
in terms of percents ;-)
Although my monthly statements from last year tell me that it should be
the other way round. :-/
On top of that there are so many nice systems around ... I'll just take
my time.

Nice idea, BTW!

   ;-) Michael.

Re: MOTM SYNTHS

There are a lot of boxes out there with MOTM modules out there that
being used on a lot or commercial recordings and you will not get the
truth. That was My API channel and pultec and my patching
patcharound.

It was a Akai sample off a record driven hot thru one of Paul's filters.

The same crap happens to Roger Linn

If I did not know the people I would say trade secret.

I know them, It is illiteracy and ignorance and some pride in disintellegence.

Because of many of the people involved and my particular relationship
to them, it makes me ashamed.
