I once designed a guitar distortion based on an RS485 chip as a gift for my
boss's anniversary, and a colleague built it on veroboard.
My boss is a guitar player himself, and a very nice chap. The thing did
sound terrible, which was part of the joke, because I've been specifying and
testing a new generation of RS485 chips for a year or so. :)

Sorry, off topic, just a little RS485 trivia.

Did that make him a serial guitarist?

The idea was to make him a Totally Integrated Guitarist, using Profibus
instead of his measly ol' guitar cable. :)
