motm-485 stopped working :-(

2007-01-19 by Jonathan Snipes

Hi friends,

my motm-485 (gx filter) just up & stopped working the other day.
It's one I built myself, so I'm not shocked, of course. I took it
out and examined it - the only thing wrong with it I could find was
that the 'freq' pot had been cranked a little too hard when
tightening the nuts, and had come up from the PC board. I replaced
it with another pot (i had some extras) but still nothing ...

basically, I just get *extremely* quiet audio out of it ... it does
what it's supposed to, just at almost inaudible levels.

any ideas? anything more I should report on? I've checked it for
shorts, and haven't found any ...

Came up from PCB ? Wow. I'd look for hairline cracks in the
copper traces around the area where the stress was applied.
Visual inspection and maybe continuity tester (ohmmeter) across
the ends of each trace.
