I finished my synthesizer!

I finished my synthesizer!

2006-12-22 by Richard Brewster

First day of vacation I finished building the last few modules awaiting
assembly (including a MOTM-440 VCF and an Oakley Filtercore Superladder
VCF). Nothing is in the pipeline now. That can't last for long. I
will do a lot of patching and playing for the rest of 2006!

Cheers,

Richard Brewster

P.S. I plan to take new photos of every module and do a major upgrade of
my website.

Now what will you do, a synthesizer finished? You can either start building another,
enlarge the existing, or delight us all with loads of music created on it, or of course all of
the above :-)

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Koos

Uh, sure...sure you did.

People, don't live in denial like Richard here. It's just not
healthy. Just buy another module or prototype some new circuit and,
of course, don't embarrass yourself by lying to the group!

Honestly, Richard, think of the young people.

I think Chub's right. Anyone who does mods like your 480 conversion is
deluding themselves if they think their modular is ever "finished". You need
help, Richard. Try breathing some solder fumes. If that doesn't do it, Chub
and I might have to organize an intervention.

(Happy holidays, everyone! Best wishes for the new year!)

JK, folks, JK. But just at the moment I have no outstanding
construction projects. The darned thing is bigger than I ever imagined
it could be. There are eight 2U slots left to fill and I will add more
MOTM modules as they come out. My plan now is to spend more time
discovering sounds. There is that MIDI thing (aka MOTM-650) to figure
out. There are two Blacet Miniwaves with 10 ROMS in each to explore.
There is something called a MOTM-510. There is a CGS Bi-N-Tic filter.
And O, that ZerOscillator. I have yet to fully grok my Blacet Time
Machines and the Encore Frequency Shifter, and I am fuzzy on how to make
good use of voltage controlled envelope generators (I have three
kinds). It's time for listening and learning. Just today I was
comparing the sounds of all the VCF's I've got. It is quite a study. I
know all these modules in theory. In practice it is a different matter
altogether.

I think you have to ask yourself if it's either a perpetual hobby
project or a tool. And if it's the latter, damn man, you have plenty!
VC-ADSR's, a Time Machine, low-pass gates, Zer0scillator...I couldn't
put together a better system myself.

Yeah, I finished mine a couple of years ago. Now I'm just tweaking...

Mike

Merry Christmas everybody, and the best for the New Year!
