MOTM-510 switch reminder

MOTM-510 switch reminder

2006-12-14 by Paul Schreiber

Since a lot of MOTM-510s are going out, it's time for the "No, the rotary switch
is NOT BROKEN" email.

a) It's in the manual, there is 1/2 of a page devoted to the issue.

b) the issue is: we are connecting/disconnecting pins of the AD538 while the
part is *under power*. Therefore, the part 'glitches' the outputs which you hear
as static/pops.

c) also, simply applying *pressure* to the knob without fully turning it causes
the switch contacts to "bounce" (scrape, actually), which again causes the
outputs to pop

d) it's not a bug, it's a feature

If this is annoying, turn down the audio to the speakers, flip the switch, turn
back up.

But please: no more emails about 'I need a replacement switch'.

And if any of you don't like it for this or any other reason, just sell it to me!

Gee, the MOTM-510 is *supposed* to be annoying! It says so right on
the PCB. Just lock up your knife drawer if the wife is home and watch
your levels.

Maybe the language needs to be stronger, Paul. Perhaps, "will shatter
existing relationships, make you the subject of police investigation,
cause brain damage in any mammal smaller than a moose, kill bugs dead,
etc." Static, clicks and pops? Oh my...

Chub- Mr. The '510 is The Best Modulator in The World!
