Hey Paul,
In the midst of all this tooling up and retooling and changing around
and explaining your decisions to all and sundry... I'd like to say
thanks, my synth is awesome. and by that of course I mostly mean that
your synth is awesome. I bought some filters from you in 1999 and have
been slowly expanding from there. Most everything has changed in my
life since then but the synth remains. My wife doesn't even hate it
even though it takes up most of our enterntainment center.
Reading Moes and thinking darn, a year has passed since Larry
passed...life is just too stinking short at best. He just really made
me think about The building, the playing, the talking and typing about
sometimes the just staring at your/my synth has been a luxury and a
constant pleasure. and today playing it reminded me that I may not
have said thanks often enough to balance out the gain to my life. So
thanks and hell yeah! Back on your head.

I am goin to chime in on this one...
I agree completly, I sometimes just sit and admire my
wall of beautiful black modules with their silver
shinny eyes staring back at me and I love the blinkey
lights, My musician friends come over and look at
the monster and then they play the keyboard and smile.

We are all so lucky Paul started MOTM, I would have
never made my dream modular come true with out Paul.

In my office next to my computer I have a photo of a
good sized moog ( I think it is from Walter Carlos
studio when he did S.O.B.) It has been my inspiration
for many years, I tore the photo out of a humanites
book from college in 1972. I still have the photo and
now I have the modular.

Thank you Paul, what ever way you decide to run your
bussines it is YOUR Busines, I will support you when
ever I can.
Dont you love America.

Ciao,
John

Ok, me too! My MOTM modular is still largely in bags waiting for me
to put it together, but I have the first 20U cabinet full and I too
sit and admire it a lot. I've wanted one since S.O.B. and I am
thrilled that Paul made it not just possible, but awesome. I have my
preferences and I'm not going to buy any of Paul's Frac, but I will
be a loyal 5U customer nevertheless. It absolutely *is* Paul's
business to drive in any direction he wants. And I *do* love this
country!

Re: [motm] Awesome

fourthed.

MOTM is excellent, and not just because of the unparalleled product
quality and support. it gave me an "easy" way into doing something
that i'd wanted to do for years but didn't have the balls - building
stuff. 2 years ago i had no confidence that i could wield a soldering
iron. now, i like hacking away on protoboard almost more than
building kits.

sterling job. all you have to do is produce something i want and i'll
be right there, yessir :-)

(i enjoyed living in america until late 2000, but it's been tough
since then, and i might even go home relatively soon)

I agree, I love Paul's modules (the few that I currently have) and I love this country....

BUT OUR GOVERNMENT SUCKS!!!! Soon we are all going to have to start worshiping our "leaders" if we don't vote for change. Get rid of ALL incumbants!! The sour apples ruined the bunch. If left up to them we will soon have to ask them for permission to be able to do anything...

Did I mention that I can't wait to get the rest of my modules, and that I am absolutely positively excited about having my very own modular?!?!?

Peace be with you,
Jim

Interesting. String theory, anti-gravity, and now politics and political
bashing are okay for the this list. Yet answer one little comment somebody
made about the scientific theory of evolution, and then some people falsely
recatagorize it as a religious or political theory and make a big deal about
it, yet oddly remain silent here. Too much.

One day I have a dream that this list..., wait, a dream is a 3D movie that
plays in your head when you're asleep and the existance of dreams makes no
sense according to the theory of evolution. Guess that makes dreams
religious. Oh well. Let's be sure never to mention them on this list
either.

I didn't appreciate reading that either, though in James' defense, it
was in his signature (IIRC) and it is generally accepted practice to
put whatever silly thing you want in your sig. For my part, I
consider it trolling to have such a provocative sig. Maybe it is a
joke - it is silly enough to be one - but it is trolling either way,
IMHO.

As for the rest of your post Kenneth; I feel your pain - but things
have always been this way. It used to be the scientists that were
truth-seekers and often silenced for asking the wrong questions.
Ironically, the tables have turned and it is the scientists who all
too often silence questioners. But this is just human nature. We
think we are so smart, yet we have never learned the lesson that "he
who thinks he has everything figured out is the greatest fool".

Larry David writes:

Actually it wasn't in his signature. That's how his posts started out.
Ironically it was what was in my signature that people pulled up and claimed
was religious or political, when absolutely no religion or politics was
mentioned anywhere in my post. And yet when somebody does go political,
those people remain silent. I just wanted to point out the hypocrisy since
I see it everyday on these lists. I put a couple of example signature
messages similar to what I had done before to show what I mean. No religion
or politics in these ones either. Hopefully this clears things up and we
won't go through this in the future. One standard set of rules for
everybody.

>>Ironically, the tables have turned and it is the scientists who all too

Exactly.

Not appropriate was digging out that message that everybody on this

OFF TOPIC: This is especially ridiculous as KE was once infamous for OT posts including a

I thought Paul put an end to this. Now with more B.S. I have to respond
risking Paul yelling.

>>Not appropriate was digging out that message that everybody on this list
had purposely ignored.<<

I did what was done to me. My quotes were pulled out and posted again.
Then somebody else came along and posted them yet again. Yet my quotes were
misrepresented to the list as something they were not.

I had to quote the original poster so people knew what the hell I was
talking about.

>>OFF TOPIC: This is especially ridiculous as KE was once infamous for OT

People put links to things all the time at the end of their posts. Doesn't
make the post off topic. And there is nothing offensive with dressing up
like somebody. That doesn't mean you support their view, geez. Too many
people like to pretent to be offended at every little thing, making
themselves look weak, petty, and whiney.

Now stop dragging me into this OT crap and end it.

Just finished my new MOTM-480. Now that's a filter! Paul, you were
right, I should have gotten this right away. Maybe your description
of the sound being "softer" kept me from ordering sooner. Right now
I'm listening to some wonderfully animated stuff - much of it plenty
harsh! - through the bandpass output. As soon as I get a real job
again, I'm in for a second '480.

Awesome indeed! Now quit your silly tit-for-tats and do something
musical.

Agreed! The 480 was the first (and so far only) filter I received
from Paul. Very nice!

As nice as the 480 is, it's not enough, so I recently ordered a couple
410 and a couple 440 filters. Can't wait! Funny, but I had purchased
a couple OMS-410 boards before I even had the 410's they go with.

EVERY MOTM filter is awesome! The '440 will likely become your
favorite lowpass filter of any available. The '410 makes incredible
animation from the simplest inputs and will do it in one, two or three
channels. The OMS-410 will add to your whole synth, too, not just the
filter - three handy LFOs.

Now that I've had a few hours with the '480, I'm truly amazed. This
is the bandpass VCF I've always wanted!

You know, for the longest time the 410 was my favorite filter. But, the
more I play with the 440 in feedback patches, the more amazed I am by the
sound of this filter. I've had both filters for years, so you'd think by
now I'd freakin have a hard core favorite - but no. Blame Paul.

And then again, it's hard to beat the sound of two 420's in HP-LP
configuration in feedback patches. Damm!t it's really hard to choose.
Hmmm, I wonder what a MOTM SEM would sound like...

Now, I'll fess up (sheepishly) that I STILL have not built my two friggin
480 filters. WTF?!? SHAME ON ME!!

-George (ahem..)

PS: Chub - you moved without a job - what WERE you thinking?? :)

That's easy George! My wife got the cool job! I've been working, but
I really want to get out of industrial electronics. Right now. I'm
courting a couple of positions at the Jet Propulsion Lab (NASA).
There are a lot of jobs for a hardware electronics guy here! Given
the deal my wife (Dr. Kennedy, the research scientist - just finished
a 3-year post doc at U-Penn, Philadelphia) got from USC, I've got
plenty of time to organize the new digs, get my grandson to school,
and find a job that I actually like...

Oh, and play with cool filters and other music stuff! Maybe I should
start a rock band with some Asian schoolgirls for a side gig. Or I
could just surf. I like surfing. Man, it is so good to be back in
SoCal!!!

Really George, build your '480s. Those are the best sounding bandpass
filters I've ever heard!
