TLN-904 Veeblefetzer question

TLN-904 Veeblefetzer question

2006-01-29 by John Loffink

Has anyone built the Veeblefetzer with two LEDs for each the ten LED
segments? If so, what current setting resistor value did you use for R24
and R27? Which LED #s did you use them with? Parallelled or serial LED
configuration?

Also, any tips on precisely cutting the velvet holes for the LEDs?

I didn't cut holes for the LED heads, I just poked the LED wires
through the velvet after the velvet was already glued onto the PCB.
So the LEDs sit on top of the velvet, which sits on top of the PCB. I
borrowed a large sewing needle from my wife to poke the holes for the
LED wires through the velvet.

I did it the same way. The sewing needle is required for two reasons.
First to locate the holes, since you cannot see them from the front with
the velvet covering the board. Push the needle through from the back,
making two holes, and then fit the LED from the front with a bit of
probing. Solder one lead. A needle is sharp enough to separate the
fabric easily. The LED leads cannot pierce the velvet without shredding
it up a little, which is to be avoided.

As for the LED part numbers and current resistors I ended up using, I
noticed I don't have this information on my website. I will add it.

I updated my website with a chart of the LED parts I used in my
Veeblefetzers. I also added anchor tags so I can send a link directly
to any module. These links are also added to the Overview page. Be
sure to refresh your browser or delete the cache to see the latest.
