[motm] Andromeda Carlos/Baroque and Special Effects demo - mp3s

[motm] Andromeda Carlos/Baroque and Special Effects demo - mp3s

2005-11-22 by Kenneth Elhardt

Note that I have been almost completely offline since June something, so if
I haven't returned any email that's why. And now I have about 16,000
messages that will take days/weeks to finally go through. My PC was being
used in the downstairs for music stuff over most of the summer. Then one day
I turned it on and got missing or corrupt dll erros that wouldn't let me
boot and that was the start of my dark period. Those dlls were neither
missing nor corrupt. I finally found another way to boot up around that
problem and use my computer and eventually one day the problems disappeared.
Then a month later I was ready to record an Ion Western demo, turned on my
computer and then got a missing or corrupt hal.dll and I was back in hell.
My will to live and my interest in synths flew away as I sat their in anger
and disgust being anally raped by Microsoft for the millionth time. I'm now
out for revenge. Suffice to say, after going through a bunch of crap which
eventually led to Windows running a routine to find all the hardware in my
computer from scratch, my USB ports now don't work among other things, and I
still don't know if I can do a cold boot without problems. So I'm posting a
bunch of demos now just incase I need to restore my computer to its brandnew
state when I bought it.

The demos are not MOTM, but I know there are a few people here who want to
hear them. Besides, synthesis is synthesis no matter what synth. There will
be two separate posts, one for Andromeda demos, and one for Ion demos.

The first 5 here are some Carlos/Baroque style demos. The last 3 are sound
effects/misc. All were done on the Andromeda. The only onboard effect used
was delay, the only post effects were reverb, bass/treble, and some EQ on
the Timpani. The time for each is given, so you can figure out the file size
from there if download time is an issue. About 512K for 0:30 seconds. And as
always, every note was played by hand. No sequencers, midi files, or half
speed recording was used.

(1:30) I get annoyed when people repeat pieces Carlos has already done
instead of something new, but I had to use one of those Scarlatti sonatas
myself because its structured in a way that seems to best allow a variety of
timbres to be shown. This is the most colorful of the lot. The point was for
me to try out my Andromeda W.Carlos soundset and see if I'm on the right
track. 2 oscs per voice and subpar filters are quite a limitation when doing
Carlos impressions, though mix mode does help in the few places I used it.
Please ignore the slight flub at 0:47.

(0:20) I don't have the music score for this one, so I faked it.

(0:39) The point of this piece was to go from the solo instrument to full
out complex and energetic polyphony that hits you at 0:13.

http://home.att.net/~synth6/A6_Bach_Fast.mp3

(1:50) I wanted to try a slow movement that's kind of loose sounding.

http://home.att.net/~synth6/A6_Bach_Slow.mp3

(0:39) Timpani is the only acoustic mimicry here.

------ Sound Effects ------

(0:06) This is your head sticking up just above some stereo boiling liquid.

(0:04) Here is in impression of somebody pouring a bit of water into a cup.

http://home.att.net/~synth6/A6_Pouring_Water.mp3

(0:24) I was creating a string sound for a Greek style folk dance I was
making up when I did a few mods to make it more sitar-like.

I switched to 2 iMacs in our house recently. Although there is no
where near the amount of silly software available (ie. games) and you
really still need Microsoft Office for Mac, the OS is SOOOOO much
more robust than ANY Windows version I have ever seen. YMMV

You are discovering what we in the arts (photography)
have know all along.
welcome to sanity. I have a pc that I use for my
accounting program at the request of my accountant. I
cringe everytime I boot it up. I started with pc's
with a kaypro dos machine and learned dos, then I
switched over to mac, this let me be creative again
and made life much simpler, with mac I have never
gotten any viruses.

You don't even need MS Office. You can get Open Office for free from
http://www.openoffice.org and it will read/write Word, Excel, and
Powerpoint files. Runs on Windows, Linux, and Max OSX.

My personal preference is the MOTM 300 Ultra VCO OS.
