i never liked having the joystick on the panel--always seems kind of un-ergonomic... i prefer to mount it in a small project box (2x4x6 from radioshack) and have that cabled to a panel which has the scaling & offset pots. i use din plugs between the two. if the joystick isn't plugged in, it still doubles as a variable voltage source. the ones i've built are frac'd, but i guess you could get two on a 1u MOTM panel. i used the alltronics 150k and ken stone's dcmixer boards, but the new MUUB boards would work fine...

the axis generator is another story, would be Great to have that in a 2u MOTM format...

I have to agree with this assessment. That's probably why I've never
been all that keen on joystick modules; they would be buried
underneath all those cables. As Moe mentioned, a performance console
with integrated ribbon controller, joystick, mod wheels, D-beam,
keyboard, etc. is the way to go, IMHO.

What Joysticks (the raw mechanics with pots) are available at the moment?
I've seen a lot of Joysticks which are self centered with springs, and
rubber
cover. Problem is, when you remove the springs, the rubber is often too
stiff so you still get some sluggish self centering action near the center
position.

Are there any joysticks available right now which don't have this problem?

JH.
