The future of Stooge Industries

The future of Stooge Industries

2005-10-16 by mate_stubb

All,

After a lot of thought I've decided that Stooge Industries will
continue. It is the most appropriate way to honor Larry, and I believe
that the services we provide to the MOTM community are too valuable to
let it go. (Sorry if that sounds immodest.)

I will strive to live up to Larry's example of service and support for
all our customers.

I can't promise that all of the more esoteric activities will
continue, such as hand building assembled power supplies on rack
panels. Maybe they will. But it is definitely my intention to continue
all of the mainstream stuff such as stooge panels, cabinet rails, and
pcb brackets. Larry had already announced that wood cabinets were
discontinued.

Please be patient with me over the next few weeks as I sort out the
logistics of this changeover.

It is my understanding that Larry had completed shipment of all the
current order of patch cables, and the next panel run had not started
yet, so hopefully I can start again with a fairly clean slate. If you
have current unfinished business with us and we owe you something,
please contact me and let me know.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi Moe,

this is great to hear!

In case you need any (virtual) help - let us, the list know.
I'm convinced that we will appreciate all your efforts and Larry's
spirit will live on.

Fingers crossed that all goes well & all the best,

:-) Michael.

Seems appropriate to me, too. Stooge panels forever!

Excellent! Thanks, Moe -- I know Larry would be happy and proud that
you're carrying on under such difficult circumstances, and the MOTM
community really does need the invaluable services of Stooge
Industries.

If I can help you in any way, please let me know. At the minimum I will
be a good customer!

Dude!

Thanks for stepping up to the plate. In my mind there are things that the MOTM community NEEDS in order to keep on going / growing. And Stooge Industries has been a resource that I consider essential.

It sounds pretty balanced to me.

Specifically I / we need:

1.- cables
2.- flat rails
3.- (stooge) panels
4.- PCB brackets

With these four things, virtually anyone with some time and a soldering iron can make their "thing" into a MOTM format module.

I encourage you to continue with Stooge Industries (encourage, encourage ... does that feel good?) but I also recommend that you concentrate on the above 4 areas. Other people might have a different list and I would be interested to see what they recommend is "ESIPL" (that would be "Essential Stooge Industries Product Line") ;-) Opinions anyone? I don't mean to imply that Stooge Industries is a democracy, but input from his customers on what they consider essential has got to be of help to Moe.

My cables have been received and I love them. Looking forward to some Stooge Panels.

Thanks.

I built a Blacet StonZ module this weekend. I needed some nice
washers and of course I have some that I bought from Larry. I used my
1/4" black screws that I got from Larry and mounted the module to my
Stooge flat rails. I mounted it next to my MiniWave that has a Stooge
panel and then to try it out I of course used my Stooge cables.

I've got a lot of Larry's stuff everywhere I look around this synth.

Looking forward to the next panel run whenever it occurs.

Moe.

I don't know what kind of help I can give to you being located in
Berlin but if you need a gateway/helper/dropoff point for MOTMers in
Germany I can help.

Thanks for keeping on.

This is great news, very much appreciated. There's nothing at all
immodest about what you wrote -- Stooge Industries is a vital compliment
to the Synth Tech system. I doubt any of us would ever dream of arguing
with that.

Thank you, Moe.

All,

After a lot of thought I've decided that Stooge Industries will
continue. It is the most appropriate way to honor Larry, and I believe
that the services we provide to the MOTM community are too valuable to
let it go. (Sorry if that sounds immodest.)

EAR

2005-10-18 by Matthew Hiscock

Hi all,

Anyone know what's going on with EAR (http://www.ear-group.com), who
were supposed to be making Oakley modules?

I've emailed them a few times and no response, and I just called their
1877 number and got an out-of-service message. Did I miss something
here?

thanks,
Matthew

Just saw them at AH Bay Area. I think they're probably just swamped with orders to fill
right now. They were demoing PlanB and LiveWire modules, but I haven't heard anything
about their Oakley stuff yet. I would guess we're gonna have to be patient for a while : }

You can check their user group

there are a few announcements but they´re not nearly as informative as Paul S on this
group.

Capacitor question.

2005-10-22 by Matthew Hiscock

Hi all,

I was about to build my first module, a '410, and I was going through
the parts to make sure everything is there when I noticed that a couple
of the capacitors that are written as 10mfd, 25v Electrolytic in the
parts list are marked 10uF50v on the cap itself.

Assuming that "50v" indicates a voltage and isnt just the model number,
should I be worried that it's marked at twice the voltage on the cap?

thanks,
Matthew

Nothing to worry about. The higher voltage rating just means the capacitor can withstand higher voltages. It will work anywhere the 25V part works.
