I live my life on the "x" axis of the Cartesian Coordinate System. " <-Dec | Inc ->" makes the most sense to me.
 
The panel layout could help make either choice 'feel right.'

On the MOTM-650, there are INC/DEC pushbuttons on the panel, side-by-side.

Should it be

INC   DEC

or

DEC   INC
