Variable-slope and other hp filters.

Variable-slope and other hp filters.

2005-07-29 by Matthew Hiscock

Hi all,

I was looking through the archives and came across mention of the MOTM
430 Variable Slope HPF, which looks really attractive (the 810 looks
great too, btw) and I was wondering if it was a model of something
existing? I didn't find any details on the list, though I googled a few
words and came up with a Serge module that seems similar, the VCFS -
should I expect similar functions?

It kinda seems like the same concept as the "z-plane" filters in my EMU
sampler, which sound great for digital filters. I can imagine the MOTM
take on the concept being sweet indeed.

Barring that, are there any hp filters - resonance is essential - that
are worth keeping an eye out for? Besides the MOTM 420 and 480, of
course.

thanks,
Matthew

Since Jurgen designs filters for MOTM, a quick look on his site finds
a variable slope hpf in his "Moog style" modular project. I'll bet
this filter would be the basis for a MOTM 430.

Good freq graphs too.

Now *that* is very cool indeed. Exactly the type of thing I was looking
for. And the freq graphs are great too.

Was the MOTM version expected in the fall?

thanks,
Matthew

Not this year, but in the pipeline for next year (along with the Oberheim SEM filter with VC Output Morphing).

In schematic capture phase, will have prototypes in Sept. 2U wide module, VC of
all stages, LED on the output and can BURST or CYCLE (like a LFO).

It has lots of parts!

If I can, it will be a regular kit. Looks 50-50 right now.
