RE: Trim & Cabinets (was: 24U or 26+U?)

We recently had a discussion about some of these subjects. In fact, someone
even sent around a diagram showing the Moog cabinet dimensions on-end,
provided I believe by Kevin Lightner. You can check the archive, but I don't
think the attachment will still be there.

As for the white trim, most people seem to be using some variation of
Chartpak tape. I'd used that in a DIY synth before, about 20 years ago, and
after a few years it starts to peel up badly. So I'm not real confident
about Chartpak tape. Need something made to stick to metal.

I'm hoping to find some thin (1/16th") white automotive pinstriping, but I
can't seem to find anything thinner than 5/16th" in local stores. Which is
weird.

If someone has this and can send it to me privately, I would appreciate it
greatly! I have been trying to figure out how to get at the archives for
this list. Searching for MOTM on the onelist.com server doesn't turn up
anything. Help!

Has anyone been bold enough to try to sand away "just enough" of the black
anodizing?

It's paint, not anodizing. I don't see how you'd get a clean edge, and I
don't have the cohones to try this. What we all REALLY want is a solution
that doesn't permanently harm the module. What if you end up wanting to
trade modules with other MOTM owners? A very thin U channel that you could
slip over the edge, either brushed aluminum or colored plastic, would be
ideal.

Farnell here in the UK do a thin plastic "U" sectioned edging -
unfortunately they only do black - i'll have a pike around for any
manufacturer details...
personally i prefer the stark black knobular wall of mayhem approach
myself - maybe i should paint all my patchcords the same colour as well..?

That was me. I cant find the dang file. However, here are the numbers

This is for a slant cabinet.

Depth at bottom 14"
Depth at top 8.5"
Height at back 15"
Height at slant 16"

Obviously, Kevin may have rounded the numbers a bit. The depths were my
primary interest. He did not supply the width, indicating that this Moog
cabinet was wider than most, indicating to me that some variety of width
did exist.

I choose 24 units cause I liked the size and primary stooge Dave B
influenced me. I was originally thinking 22 or 23. 24 is just such a good
round number.

Yeah sure, blame it on me! Just for that, I'm going back to 26U!

Oh sure. Now that I have two magic busses already drilled and cut for 24
U. If you make me go to 26U I will have to pull one of Paul's tricks and
sell them to Stooge Barlow for scrap price.
