Paul, Anyone, If you're out here!: I'm seriously thinking about getting a scope. The following eBay auction lists a Tek 2465 for $350. The listing says the scope powers up and displays four dots. Is this something to be worried about? Otherwise, it looks like a good deal. Probably a lot more scope than I'll need. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7532774278&ssPageName=MER C_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BID_Stores Any help would be appreciated... Greg (getting ready to actually solder!)

a) there is no better analog scope than a 2465, except a 2465B :) b) the readout intensity is turned all the way down, so I can't see what the sweep setting is, however..... c) I am 99.99% sure the scope is in X-Y mode, which means the horizontal sweep knob is simply turned all the way to one side. d) the price is right. Well, For better or worse, I put a bid in last night for the Tek 2464 below and got it for $349! (Tony, if I missed that one, I think I would have gone your route.) Anyway, now I wait for it to arrive. I'm assuming it'll need calibration, so I'm now looking for a local shop (Cleveland) who does that. Any ideas how often this needs to be done and how much it should cost? Thanks everyone for your advice. As I'm just a hobbyist, I really appreciate hearing from the experts. Greg

Unless you can get it done for < $200, don't bother. Scopes are *rarely* used for accurate measurements in the analog area (that's what DVMs and Freq Counters are for). Paul S. ----- Original Message -----
