Rack mounting the power supply on the back

Rack mounting the power supply on the back

2005-04-28 by Greg Amann

Is there any reason why I cannot mount a MOTM-900 or MOTM-950 power
supply on the back of my 19" rack freeing up 3 spaces for modules on
the front of the rack?

The real question may be: will a power supply that is mounted on the
back and extending to the front of the case foul the synth mods that
are mounted on the front and extending towards the back of the case?

Help a newbie and get good karma.
I promise.

My first rack cabinet was designed this way. Photos are at

You just have to select what modules go in front of it. Since
it is only 3U in width, I used short modules such as the MOTM-800
to go in front of it. I did wire a front mounted power switch
so I didn't have to reach around to the rear. There is a sketch
of the cabinet but generally I have around 10" in cabinet depth.

In my wood cabinets, there is actually less room since the power
supplies are mounted internally and not on the rear. There is no
issue with most of the modules such as the filters, vco's etc. The
Blacet designs tend to be deep as are some of my modifications but
there is plenty of room elsewhere in the cabinet for those modules.
