OT - Old gear, old capacitors

OT - Old gear, old capacitors

2004-12-19 by ivancu@aol.com

Paul - A while ago you said the following regarding going through old gear before you power it up:

"Next, if you see ANY green disc-type bypass caps, replace them with AVX or Kemet 0.1 axial parts. These have a history of shorting out."

Is this just a standard AVX or Kemet ceramic disk capacitor? I'm guessing 50V? Do you have a specific part number you recommend for this application?

Thanks!

Ivan

NOT a disc cap! The axial caps used as MOTM bypass caps.

Repeat after me: disc caps bad. Axial caps good!

MOTM uses Kemet part number C410C104M5U5CA7200 which is parts on a 'reel'. (the
A7200 at the end, I think).
