Portable MOTM case

Portable MOTM case

Here is a link to a drawing of it:

This is 11U high so it will fit two MOTM racks plus a single 1U item such as a MIDI converter. The back is sealed (all access from front) and the rack rails are recessed 1.5"; from the rack rails to the back of the case is 10.5". Note that valance-spanning latches are used for the lid, so the extrusion around the front is not broken by a recessed latch assembly.

It is made of a honeycomb plastic material so that the total case weight (empty) should be around 20 pounds. Right now I'm being quoted at $271 for one and $245 for two or more. I only need one but I'm hoping that someone else here might need one and I can get the $245 price for all of us.

The brand is Wilson case and I have seen their work in person. Nice stuff, and the plastic is suprisingly rugged. It only comes in two colors, black or gray.

Please e-mail me at ivancu@... if interested.

That looks intriguing, but I wonder how flush you could actually
stack them -- vertically and horizontally with those ball corners.

Since they're not open at the back, I assume one would be looking
at one double-space front-mounted power supply panel per box, or one
for every 9 double-space modules. Any way of getting around that? I
had sort of figured on trying to rear-mount the PS, if at all possible.

I was thinking of changing the spec to stacking ball corners. It is also possible to add latches to connect stacked cases, but that of course adds to price.

I will be using a power supply mounted to the inside bottom rear of the case, with a power connector mounted in the case itself.

Now that I think about it ball corners don't matter since they are for
stacking cases with lids on. I asked the case company and the large
rubber feet used on the bottom of these cases will clear the ball
corners anyway. Latches and catches to link stacked cases would add
about $40, so I doubt I'll do it.

If you want to rear mount an accessible power supply then get a
regular rack. Typically these are much deeper than 12" which is part
of
the reason I had this case quoted. The other reason is that a
removable back adds quite a bit of cost.
