Yeah, those have been available for at least a year or two. The price is outrageous.

The effect of an infinite "Barberpole" is similar to Shepard function effects; for instance a phaser that doesn't "cycle" but psychoacoustically seems to always phase in one direction (up or down in pitch).

Only $1500? Are they gold-plated or something?

I'm sure that they are very cool, but it would be nice if they at
least put up some sound samples...what's an infinite phaser sound
like?

Then again, if they put up samples, I'd probably want one!

Yeah, those Buchla modules have been up there for a couple of years now.
I wonder how many they've sold at those prices?

The infinite 'barberpole' effect sounds just like any other such effect
(phasing, etc.) except that it doesn't "cycle." It appears to always
move in one direction (up or down). You can do barberpole effects using
a Shepard function setup.

Isn't this the same effect that can be produced with a
Frequency Shifter and an (optional) extra all pass (or phaser)
module?

Now that FS are nothing too exotic anymore, you might try
these setups:

A) Signal into FS

Mix Upshift (or Downshift) output with input signal

Set the amount of frequency shift to a low value
(like 1/5 or 1/10 Hz)

B) Signal into an all pass filter (you can use an
ordinary phaser, if you can set the output mix completely
to the "wet" signal. Schulte Compact A does this.
And it can easily be hacked into _any_ cheap phaser
stomp box, too ...)

All Pass ilter output goes to FS input.

Upshift (or Downshift) output is mixed with input
signal _before_ the all pass filter (_not_ with FS
input signal!)

Frequency shift in low range, as above.

C) Finally, try the above with upshift/input mix on
left stereo channel, and downshift/input mix
on right stereo channel.

Always make sure that your mix is precisely at 50%
wet/dry, for deep phasing notches.

I'm still not sure if what I described is exactly what the
Buchla does.
But you can find it in US Patent Nr. 4 399 326 (Harold Bode).
