OT: Very big inductor, was very big capacitor

OT: Very big inductor, was very big capacitor

2003-12-10 by J. Larry Hendry

Well, I was so into analyzing the switch operation, I failed to really look
closely at the video once it was panned back at the very end. Now that I
have pulled my head out and have looked, I see that this switch is really
being used to switch a special type of transformer that can be seen as three
single-phase units right behind the truck. These are single winding units
connected phase to ground to offset the capacitance of the attached line.
They are commonly referred to as "shunt reactors" in the utility business.

The file has been moved to a server capable of the traffic. Thanks to Old
Crow and everyone else that offered to host it. And, my apologies to Cary
at Retrosynth who has been a very generous and gracious host of
www.wiseguysynth.com for some time. I had no idea the traffic would blow up
like it did. I "should" have known. My bad.

I have added a page at my site with additional technical explanation (only
as I know it from observation) and a link to clip.
http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/day.htm

I'll now cease the OT matter. But, I hope you all enjoyed it. :)

I thought that this was what happened when you powered up your MOTM!

Well, this only happens to me occassionaly. But I run my MOTM off of
220v mains because I want it louder (20v p-to-p)...

I wonder if Hans Zimmer has his own substation?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
