delay's digital......

delay's digital......

2003-10-29 by Markk W. Roberts

I guess I'm spoiled, as I have a Eventide DSP7000 and a tc electronic M3000,
both fully
programmable in real-time (over MIDI). It's also a matter of economics: if
me or someone else is
writing algorithms for 7 months and I sell say 60 of them, it has to make
$$$ sense. Because
there's ALWAYS the ''but I like my (any one of 4000 possible answers)
better!"

This is why I didn't come out with a Moog filter until I has absolutely 110%
convinced the design
was correct. This is why the '480 is 1 year in development.

I have to agree with the $$$ sense here, I too have a pair of the TC
Electronics M-300's which have the same "engine" as the 3000's so the sound
quality is amazing, Plus my Yamaha board has 2 internal digital delays that
I can bring right into any of my channels... no patching there at all, and
they are based on the SPX-900 series... besides, it looks cool as heck
having more of Stooge cables going everywhere...... I look more and more
like the mad scientest synth player that I am !!! While it would be "nice"
to have it as a panel... I think this one will stay a Time Machine Moe Mod,
with a Stooge panel... I am more excited about the u600 sequencer... which I
still have to buy...

My thought at this point is: if somebody out there wants to design and write the code on a DSP
eval baord, I'll be more than happy to license the design and turn it into a product.

I know of at least 2 MOTM customers that have PhDs in DSP....so guys....?

This would be a wonderful addition to the MOTM line, I hereby promise
to buy at least one, maybe two ^_^

I know of at least 2 MOTM customers that have PhDs in DSP....so

Darn - my PhDs are in PMS and DUIs...been way too 'overstudied' in
these areas.

But seriously folks -

Something tells me that your time, Paul, would be better spent on
continuing with the analog design stuff you've proven to excel at
already - and why re-invent the wheel anyways? coding could become
really a blackhole...

But please don't let ME suggest, that I have any clue about 'your
time'. I know you've got very little of it, like myself - and I'm
just getting good at saying 'no' to many requests to: (pick one) join
a band(s) - do production work - co-write/collaborate - engineer -
"teach me about MIDI", etc,etc,etc...it endless!

Yet does make me feel wanted every now and then - :)

While my desire to enter into the recent thread (threat?)
concerning "what to do: this or that and whats the best way to go for
MOTM and the synth world, etc," ended in COMPLETE unconsciousness
last eve - I still think and feel that the vital (and obviously
successful $$$ )work has already been done and is established.

So do whatever you want!

I do whole-heartily agree that "sharing" is the way to go as opposed
to the 'proprietary' leanings of some techno-genious types out
there...

While this whole modular rebirth thing has many players - I think its
fairly established that it wouldn't work at all without this concept
in place to begin with. I for one - will be working towards
continuing that spirit as best I can...and if anybody wants....

Having some experience in the 'corporate music world' of progressive
rock (if you could even call it that) there's LOTS of egos running
amok in what is really a small universe to begin with and hence, a
fair amount of people scambling over $$$ for a VERY small piece-of-
the-pie to begin with. Unfortunately, revenue is essential, yet the
mindset that tends to develop when pursuing it - tends to decay and
rot everything away towards the end of that cycle...

for whatever its worth,
