Synth Light Sources

2003-10-21 by mbedtom@aol.com

Recently I did some work for Federal Signal, makers of emergency vehicle
signaling products. While musing with some of their emergency products engineers
I got to play with some Luxeon LEDs I had read about some time ago. Arrays of
Luxeon LEDs are used on police and other emergency vehicles as strobe light
replacements. The only complaint against them is that they are too bright at
night! Luxeon LEDs are amazing and available in most of the cool colors
including red, white, blue, green, etc.

To light up a synth with low power and quiet DC-only voltage, I suggest
looking into Luxeons. Go to www.theledlight.com to look around. They carry the
whole range of Luxeons as well as many other LED lighting options. They seem to
have all things photonic. Cool stuff.

Cheers!

Yes, these are very bright and when used in clusters they need rather a
bit of heatsinking. I have a ring of "LumiLEDs" that can blind if you're
careless. ;)
