Hopefully everyone remembers that there is a MOTM version of this coming around the end of
October.... :)

No! I sure did not remember that. I would not have "one coming" if I did.
Maybe it's time for Y.A.U. focused on new stuff coming with progress reports
and such on things like 500 and 600 series and other goodies like the LPG
that some of us (like me) may have forgotten about .

Encore Frequency Shifter

2003-08-05 by Mark

Any word on the Encore Frequency Shifter??

The website says "Coming August 2003". I was off the list for over a
month, so perhaps I missed something.

I'd like to know too. The specs are impressive. Seems like it would
be a natural for the Stooges to MOTM-ize. I'd certainly dotcomize it.

Has anybody actually tried the FS or seen it demo'd?

We are expecting the Encore release to be in a MOTM size format not
requiring Stooge intervention.

We would damn sure you make a dot com panel for it.

It was in Robert Rich's synth at NAMM (I'm not dreaming am I?). I'm not
sure if that was the final design or what. I did not get a chance to play
with it. Roobert might be a good person to ask about impressions using it.

I had Tony demo it for me two NAMM shows ago, it was very
impressive.
All I can say is that the month isn't over yet. so, let's keep our
fingers crossed...

Re: [motm] Re: Encore Frequency Shifter

2003-08-07 by Tony Karavidas

Sorry I've been so quiet lately. Things have been very tough this year and Encore music products have unfortunately dropped to the bottom of the list. I was trying to spend more time working on the FS like I mentioned in March, but it was one thing after the other that got in the way.

Anyway, things are still in turmoil, but I've managed to allocate some time this month to give to the completion of the FS. I'm not sure if I will make the August time frame, but it should be very close. I've been working on the FS for several days in a row...(oh, until yesterday's flood occurred in my house...the second one in 9 months!!) I plan on working on the FS full time until it's done.

I have been getting emails from a few of you privately, sorry if I haven't responded to all of them. My email client blew up a couple weeks ago (never will I use Mozilla mail again) and I had to spend some time evaluating email client software. (Part of the real cost of crappy software)

Anyway, I'll be in better communications this month since I foresee good progress happening now.

Thanks,
Tony

Encore Frequency Shifter

2007-10-25 by nootie1000

Has anyone had any experience with the Encore Frequency Shifter?
Is it worth buying? or just stick to a Ringmodulator?

Thanks !!

RE: [motm] Encore Frequency Shifter

Buy it. It is several levels better than a ring modulator. The Encore
module is very high quality, at half the cost of most other Frequency
Shifters.

Yes, I have an Encore frequency shifter. While I rarely ever use my
MOTM VCA's as ring modulators (and imho, the 110 is much better than
the 190 in that regard), I use my frequency shifter all the time. In
fact, besides the 800, I think I use it more than any other module.
However, that does not mean you should buy one.

This is a demo of an Encore frequency shifter being controlled by a
single CV. A mono 909 drum pattern is sent to its audio input, and
its two outputs are recorded in stereo. That's it. There are no
other effects. Except for the opening bar, there is no change in the
drum pattern. There is no knob tweaking. It's completely hands off.
All changes are done entirely with frequency shifter:

http://www.encoreelectronics.com/wav/MRTenEight.mp3

That should give you any idea how a frequency shifter can go from
subtle stereo effects to completely transforming a sound.

I can't live without mine, I think it should be a required module.
It's not a ring modulator replacement. And the sine/cosine outputs
can be used as additional LFOs (in quadrature). I've got some demos
that feature the FS with my doomsday machine (scroll down to section
9 on this page):

I also like the Frequency Shifter from Encore and would recommend buying one. Although I have one of the FS modules I have two of the Universal Event Generators which are also made by Encore. Obviously it's quite different than a Frequency Shifter but it's also a very handy module to have. Encore makes some great stuff and you won't be disappointed with anything you buy from them IMHO.

I am the same, 1 FS & 2 UEG. I agree with what you
said rob.

I keep finding more and more uses for the Encore FS. Listen to
Aleatoric Double Harmonic with Frequency Shifter (MP3 link at top of
page below). It's basically the Cyndustries Buchla Low Pass Gates
plinking away. It didn't have that Subotnick twang until I ran it
through the FS. That made all the difference. Lately I have been
patching the FS as part of a phase lock loop, an idea I got from
Electronotes. It's a very worthwhile module.

Lumex Bicolour LED at Mouser

2007-10-29 by Scott Juskiw

Much to my surprise, it appears that Mouser now carries the MOTM standard bi-colour LED that I like to use in so many of my projects:

Mouser# 696-SSI-LXH387HGW

Or is this old news? Previously there was a minimum order of 100.

This is new news, at least to me. Years ago Digikey had them but 100
min order or something around that amount. I used to get a few from Paul.
