packing advice?

2003-07-21 by celesteh@casaninja.com

Hello,

I'm about to move my entire studio across the country and I was wondering
if any of you had moving advice for musical instruments. I'm planning on
putting my MOTM modules in skb cases, but what about my DX7? A sousaphone
without a case? Should I pack things as if I was going to ship them via
UPS or is there are a higher or lower standard for movers?

I'm especially concerned about the sousaphone.

Since this is profoundly off-topic, could replies be off-list?

Thank you,
Celeste

Pack for worst case scenario. And yeah, UPS is worst case scenario ;-)

FWIW I would pack the MOTM modules individually, not racked. I fly my
modules across the ocean about twice a month, and I learned very quickly
that the boards which stick out in back will wobble during transit, and
result in bad contacts etc. Going to a local gig would be fine, but moving
cross-country in the back of a moving truck is some hardcore
vibration/shock.

I don't think this is off-topic... At least, the MOTM modules are on
topic... :-)

best,
- Scott
