The list is PRIVATE, by invatation only. This prevents it from turning into
a 3-ring circus.

When an order is placed or shipped, I send out that info in a private email.

I *think* that is the way it was setup.... you cant find it in a search
of groups, but you can join if you got the link.
Is this true? Makes sense for a customer support/feedback group like this.

"New Guy from the desert of Arizona"

As usual, "a thank you" is in order for Larry... <I am tipping my
hat> I am on the list... I have ordered 2 of Larry's 822's first
ironically, and have been a spending fool in the last week buying all
my bench tools to get going. (just ordered 3200 Xicon resistors
alone !!!) Mouser is gonna know me by first name basis <chuckle> I
just haven't decided which modules to order from Paul yet, I was
going to get the power supply, but after reading Moe's comments about
large systems, I "know" I will need more. I may start with the MOTM-
800 then an Ultra VCO... dive right in.

This is a great bunch of individuals... so I will first search the
archives for some minor problems I am having... <ferrite beads> ???
then I will ask questions later...

One question for Tony K. from Encore... any word on the new
Expressionist... Zon had mentioned you were designing a new format,
possible one already in a panel version so we don't have to build
Moe's breakout panel?

When I decided to get involved with MOTM, about a year ago,
I found the list on the Yahoo groups and became member
using the standard yahoo interface. No problem at all.

This probably explains some hostile reactions to my
presence on the list, especially when I explained I still
don't have any MOTM module (I have 11 on order now, so you
can sit down again ;). People assumed I'm a troll for some
reason, while I'm being polite and all, and just wanted to
learn about MOTM before I buy. And for several reasons
that first order took longer than expected.

I even got a private email a couple of month ago from a
member telling me to f**k off, just out of the blue. He
apologized after I explained the situation. Looks like the
formula is this:

list member without MOTM stuff == troll.

So why is this list closed like a fortress?

a) If anyone here has an issue with an individual being on this list, they
had better come to ME first, or hope I don't hear about it :(

b) I am overprotective (some say, to a fault) of the postings to the list. I
DO NOT want this list to degrade into junior-high school name-calling,
trolling, etc. Just a reminder: I am NOT the list admin. AND...if you are
NOT, then don't ACT LIKE YOU ARE.

c) Sincere people (as yourself) who politely ask me to join the list, I will
99.9% of the time send you the info to do so.

There are MANY other forums to vent, expound, gripe and tell the world just
how clever/smart/talanted you really are. Just don't do it HERE.

I *like* to think that the people on this list are FAR ABOVE the mindless
ego-blathering on lists such as TGS, AH and to some degree SynthDIY. Please
don't prove me wrong.

Robert,
I very surprised that you had this reaction... I joined the list a little
over a year ago (before I even had my first order) and have been met with a
warm welcome. The people on this list have been gracious and supportive of
all my stupid questions! Please don't let the foolishness of one individual
spoil the benefits of being on this list!

Paul -

I assume this is in reply to Robert's post. This list is by far the
most helpful and civil that I subscribe to, so thanks for the
vigilance.

I had an incident with a then-new list member about 9 months ago,
where that member emailed me privately and insultingly, in a junior
high school way. I haven't interacted with that individual since,
publicly or privately, but he knows who he is. I won't give him up,
but generally those folks eventually do themselves in.

All in all, it's been a real pleasure to ask for stuff and get
comprehensive answers on the list, and contribute what little I can.

Mike

Well it's coming... After the FS is shipping. You all don't know this,
but I am almost full time on Encore only stuff right now (except for the
construction that's going on here for a new office) so things should
happen on a slightly more predictable schedule. I'm working one a "I'm a
year late on everything" schedule.

Re: What's the deal with the list

2003-02-07 by etanstudios2000 <nate@etanstudios.com>

since this is paul's list, i won't ask you to say anything bad about
the motm midi-cv that's due out, but what's the differences? why
make a motm format midi-cv when there's already one in the
works? are there advatages to one over the other? the biggest
selling point i saw with paul's is the instant availability of velocity
voltages on the front panel without having to set any controllers
to specific outputs etc... i currently have an expressionist
(rackmount) and i love it, but something like what paul is
proposing, may be more useful for my applications... i guess i'm
asking for a sales pitch without trashing the motm version, b/c, at
this point, i'm not sure whether to stay with what i have or update
to either of the 2 models due out...

-nate

ps: i got all the trimmer info i was looking for on the moog
source, if anyone needs a copy of what they are, just email me
and i'll send you a copy... thanks to everyone for the help on that
one.

RE: [motm] Re: What's the deal with the list

2003-02-12 by Tony Karavidas

I actually don't know much about the details of Paul's version, but from
our brief discussions, it sounds like my unit will have more features
and have a processor that is quite a bit faster which should translate
to better response. That is just a guess because I don't have ANY
benchmarks for either his or my unit yet. I also planned on a physical
replacement for the first Expressionist, and the internal design for the
MOTM format and the "rack" are nearly identical. (There might be channel
count difference, but no architectural differences.

Paul decided to do one because mine was taking way too long and he saw a
requirement that needed to be filled.
So now you'll have two, at two different price points with two different
features sets.

Thanks,
Tony
