Re: [AHOT] Bode freq on eBay

Everyone copies Moog filters, why can't they copy the Moog/Bode
frequency shifter?

Is it is so good, and sells for so much, why doesn't someone just
clone it? Maybe one of the motm crew could make a clone (Paul?).

Thanks,

Encore Electronic has a design for a *far* superior design. We'll have the prototype in the NAMM
booth.

The Bode design is *awful*: the trimming procedure takes 2 hours, having to adjust *27*
individual trim pots!!

The Bode has already been cloned by Analog Systems. The RS240 module is
in production and it does sound great.
Paul is right about all the trim pots - I have never seen so many in
one module and don't ever want to have to go through the proceedure.

Like most of us, I look forward to the Encore shifter to start shipping
- but I'm gonna miss that big knob.

It can be done as others have mentioned, but compared to the ladder
filter, the circuit is VERY complex, expensive, uses hard to find
parts, and is hard to set up. Most manufacturers today cop out on
doing it in analog electronics because it's way easier to do
digitally.

I assume the analog version sounds better, right?

Any audio examples online?

Assuming the knobs in the picture are the smaller 3/4", just going to the
normal motm size 1" would be bigger. Even a 1.25" pointer knob won't be too bad
(though that might defy the rotary switch only convention). But please don't
go with some huge thing like the butt ugly AS freq shifter. The module would
stick out like hideous sore thumb.

Well, the original Moog Bode knob looks pretty big.

Here is the recent ebay ad with a pic of the big knob...

A bit off topic, but:

Ok, so how is Bode supposed to be pronounced anyways? Bohd, Bodie,
Boday???

I can answer, having worked with Harald Bode's son, Peer, and having met Mr.
Bode himself.

'Bohd' is close. It is two syllables: 'BOD' (rhymes with 'abode') - 'uh'.
Accent on the first syllable.

Oh, and Peer rhymes with pear (the fruit).

Gotta agree with Elhardt here. Anything much larger than the standard
MOTM knob would be ugly and out of place.

that's the point - the BIG KNOB!

The smoother the better.

I agree, an AS or Moog CE sized knob would be ridiculously ugly.
Although maybe the slightly bigger round Cosmo knob used on the Mini
Moog oscillators might work and still agree with the MOTM motif.
