Affordable good pc layout program?

Affordable good pc layout program?

2002-11-22 by mate_stubb

Anyone have advice on a decent affordable (under $100) program for
laying out pc boards? Needs to run on a PC, handle 2 layer boards w/
legends and masks, netlist from schematic would be great, and output
gerber files.

Please reply offlist, thanks.

Check out Eagle:

For $125 (for nonprofit work), gives you a 160x100mm board size with
includes an autorouter, schematic capture, and layout editor. They have
both Windows and UNIX versions available.

I've used this to create a couple of circuits and it works quite well.

I checked it out and it looks very nice. Unfortunately, the very
first board I have to lay out is 11.5" long, not allowed except in
their professional version.

Still looking,

There is a lot to be said for using Protel EasyTrax. This was a commercial
program for DOS. It supports multiple layers though does not have the
schematic/netlist capability. The price however is right - it's free. How
many companies do you know that make their older programs free? There are no
other limits to the program, and it will work at 640x480 VGA in a DOS shell

Even better is their Autotrax. It's a step above Easytrax and it's now
free too!!

If you can do it in 30 days, download the protel software.
www.protel.com

That's the package I use on a regular basis.
