Cabinetry -- Glue

Cabinetry -- Glue

2002-07-29 by Tkacs, Ken

Has anyone used biscuit joinery and "Gorilla" polyurethane glue? Is it as strong as everyone says it is?

Thanks in advance.

It is strong glue, but has the same problem that urethane/epoxy glues have
for cabinet making. If you get excess glue on the face of the cabinet, it
gets into the wood fibers and tends to prohibit stain application in the
area where the glue is. If your painting, or clear finishing without stain
it should be fine.

And I've never had a problem with Elmer's Wood Glue, particularly
with the right kind of joinery. Biscuits and Elmer's make a strong
joint horizontally, but I'll confess to never using biscuits at
right angles.

The Synth of Doom cabs use biscuits and wood glue, at both right
angles and oblique angles. There are interior corner braces as well.
The case is extremely strong.
