Yeah, the first Synergy album has a great version of "Slaughter on Tenth
Avenue."

Supposedly, Amin Bhatia's excellent "Interstellar Suite" was to be released
on CD some time ago. It was his soundtrack to an imaginary sci-fi film, a
tribute to Tomita, Carlos, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, etc. Really nice.

For simple-but-scary stuff, the soundtrack to the Halloween movies,
especially "Halloween III," is nice.

I'm surprised that Pat Gleeson's "Four Seasons" and "The Planets" haven't
made it to CD, especially since the former was DDD -- straight from a
Synclavier. But the latter was done on a EMu modular. In an interview at the
time, he pretty much took credit for FM synthesis with that album. Carlos
wrote the liner notes for it and there is a veiled 'slam' at Tomita in them

One person whose work is worth checking out is my good friend Fumitaka
Anzai, who lives in Japan. I met him through my other hobby years ago as
he had done soundtracks for animated shows and films in Japan. From time
to time I try to talk him into buying some MOTM equipment. His website is
here:

I think he has some stuff on mp3.com as well.

Hi all,
Since were on the subject of classical...

I just posted a piece that I did a couple of months ago. Rather than strive
for the realism of Ken's work I strove to use a few modules as possible.
Each part was a simply a 300, 110, and an 800 with no other devices or
effects. After awhile I did give in and add a touch of 320 and 820 on the
'violin' part. It's kind of hokey but I did just for fun!

Carlos Boxed Set: I bought mine without hesitation. It's worth the price for
the book it comes with, for a WC fan, but the CDs are of course, great. Who
knows how long it will be available--already some Carlos albums have slipped
out of print; my advice would be to get them while you can.

I have to agree with the Wakeman comments. "Six Wives" has some extreme high
points, very memorable, and a must-have. But I do think "Criminal Record" is
his best album overall. Very balanced, wonderful mood juxtapositions between
tracks, some humor, and it ends with the powerful "Judas Iscariot" for great
organ that half of my friends are STILL complaining was ripped off years
later by Andrew Lloyd Webber for the main theme to "Phantom..."

Don't forget Vangelis Papathanassiou, too. "Blade Runner" is his
masterpiece, but you need to get the bootlegs. I like "China," "Albedo
0.39," "Mask," and "Heaven & Hell" an awful lot. "Beauborg" is good for some
retro "pre keyboard" synthesizer work.

I'm a big Vangelis fan, too, ever since "Cosmos" was on 20 years ago.

My tastes in Vangelis have changed over the years, though. I was
originally attracted to his music because a lot of it is very
melodic. Now, some of his more "difficult" music I find a lot more
interesting. Opera Sauvage is probably my favorite album. Albedo 0.39
has some great cuts on it, especially Nucleogenesis. "666", an album
by the band he was in before he went solo, is a great prog-rock
concept album, too.

And certainly, Yes fans will appreciate the Vangelis / J. Anderson
cooperative effort. It leans a little new age.
